Hog Wally Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 After seeing those pictures it explains why the sudden dirty water on Monday Tuesday It's cleared up now I drove by a golf course one day years ago and looked over at my buddy and said , look at all them idiots chasing the ball around. My buddy says, who cares! They ain't fishing or hunting so that's more for us to kill and catch. I guess I'm saying to each his own. I just hope there wasn't any churches trying to have a old fashion river babtism when all that was going down the river.
hank franklin Posted August 27, 2014 Author Posted August 27, 2014 Onondaga is a state park with an excellent beach but for this Saturday a for-profit enterprise completely takes it over without (to my knowledge) paying a dime for the privilege. You have to pay a fee to rent a pavilion in the park but Ozark Outdoors pays nothing to blight the river and the state park for the weekend? I have a feeling Mardi Gras Inc pays the City of St. Louis a pretty penny to run their lewdness through the City streets. We in Missouri just give up our sweet beautiful rivers for free. I'm sick of it, and I'm sick of anyone who supports this stupidity in any fashion. Grow up and take some responsibility for yourself, for your families and for our natural resources.
Justin Spencer Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 OTF, can you put up a link as to how these other rivers are permitted, I am having trouble finding any specifics. I'm sure you are aware that special use permits are required for onsr as well as any usage on national forest lands, and these limit boat numbers. Just curious on how this compares to Michigan. Justin Spencer Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 Did find some info on the Pere Marquette which said there were boat limits and a permit you have to buy, which is included in a rental canoe. It says to get your permit 2 weeks ahead of time for your own boat, this favors the outfitters who have 750 canoes in the 2 county area as you can just show up and float. Limiting the crazy rivers would send business to the less popular rivers making it harder to find solitude anywhere in my opinion. Great blue herons flush if anyone comes by, but eagles will gladly watch drunks float beneath them. The difference is that you're talking about permits for outfitters in those references. In the type of system I'm talking about, everyone needs a permit, private boats or otherwise and there's a hard cap. They are also so cheap that cost isn't an issue for anyone. Here's the link you requested (this is for the Pine and Pere Marquette in Michigan but it works the same in several other National Scenic rivers in the area.
ozark trout fisher Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 I see we double posted at the same time. I do agree that it would spread out river traffic more....but rivers like the Current and Jacks are too valuable to see their current treatment continue. I don't think this is viable on the Meramec, North Fork, or the other rivers that aren't one way or another federally controlled. And the Eleven Point is but probably doesn't need it at this point.
Justin Spencer Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 River hours 9 am to 6 pm, I like that, not great for fishermen, but we could eat dinner as a family every night! ozark trout fisher Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 Yeah, that part was actually pretty annoying if I were to be honest. You wanted to take it slow and fish the end of whatever hatch was going on but you have to paddle like hell to get off by 6 PM. That was weird.
