ness Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 They aren't likely to get a good coach unless they are willing to overpay them. Few really good coaches are going to spend the time in the trenches hoping to build a reputation. They might get a Snyder assistant to take the gamble and that would be their best move. They have dug themselves a hole and for the most part it will take some time to get out of it. They can't recruit against Snyder with their record and that is where the problem starts today. People can say what they want want, but there wasn't a lot of collabortion, at least it wasn't reported, for the player conflicts with Mangino. When you act surprised at accusations and then fire a coach of his caliber it sets a precedence that is hard to overcome. Yes, they have definitely dug a big hole that will take years to dig out of. Mangino's problems built up over time. When he started screaming and cussing at parking lot attendants for writing tickets, and putting hands on players, the rest of his classless antics came to light and it snowballed. KU didn't do anything anybody else wouldn't have done in the same spot. They've got some big time boosters, including KC's latest billionaires the Ward brothers. They need to do this one right and that's gonna cost them. John
ozark trout fisher Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 Speaking of (hopefully) fired coaches, anyone see how Brady Hoke kept putting Michigan's QB back in the game after he had an obvious concussion? Awful. He needs to get fired ASAP (though given how terrible Michigan is that shouldn't be a problem.)

ness Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 Dang. And he was doing such a good job of making us Mizzou fans happy! Ha! Sorry to disappoint. In other college football, the #2 ranked (NAIA) Baker Wildcats defeated conference rival Graceland 41-0. I know, I know. Who cares? John
Al Agnew Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 Mizzou isn't very good this year. But somehow they are they are a real contender to win the east at this point. The division is just that bad. Could see a 9-3 or even 8-4 team in Atlanta this year. Georgia has Todd Gurley, but a mediocre QB, and an inconsistent defense. South Carolina already has two losses, and they look like they will have a couple more before it's said and done. Florida is hot garbage, Kentucky is okay I guess, Vanderbilt is terrible. Tennessee might end up being pretty good, but they'll still probably top off in 8-win territory. And Mizzou lost to a terrible Indiana team and will have a hard time beating either of their west division opponents. They have only played well once this year, against UCF (yes, they beat a top 25 team on the road last night, but I can't ignore how terrible the offense was for 3.5 quarters just because SC gave it away at the end.) Maty Mauk will have to get better fast or this win won't mean anything. It's just such a mess, but I'm glad they won. Actually, in a backhanded sort of way I'm more optimistic about Mizzou than I have been. The defense played a heck of a game, holding SC to season lows in nearly all offensive categories. Mauk didn't look good, but a lot of that could be attributed to only having one receiver in the game with any experience; there's a good possibility that the timing and route running wasn't anywhere near what it should be. The offensive line still wasn't impressive, but they improved some, and Boehm fixed his snapping problems. They have a bye week next week, so they'll have two weeks to prepare for Georgia and hopefully heal a bit as well. I hesitate to predict anything about this team, but I think they have an excellent chance of beating the Dawgs. I don't know if they can slow down the Arkie running enough to outscore them, but NOBODY in the SEC is unbeatable this year, and I think they might have a chance against ATM as well...as long as they don't suffer any more injuries and the defensive effort yesterday wasn't a flash in the pan.
ozark trout fisher Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 I'm pretty optimistic about Mizzou's shot at winning the east. I'm still betting it's Georgia, but we're probably the second most likely team at this point. I guess my question is how much that means in this year's SEC east. Getting to Atlanta would be awesome, but wouldn't necessarily be indicative of a great season this year. It reminds me of some of those years in the Big 12 North, especially while Nebraska was down. Some tough opponents but no marquee teams at all. Georgia is close, but not there. Too inconsistent on defense and their QB play has taken a hit. Anyway, we'll probably have a pretty good clue if we're going to Atlanta after the UGA game. The winner of that will have all kinds of margin for error the rest of the way, especially if Florida doesn't get it together. But the way things are going, would it shock anyone if a team like Tennessee or even (gasp) Kentucky went on a run and stole the division from everybody? I could see it happening. I think every single SEC west team is better than every single east team. I think Arkansas or Ole Miss (the so-called "bottom feeders, I guess?) would win the east division, perhaps easily.
BATCAB27 Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 Hey, if we can beat GA then we gotta be the fav in the east. Could lose 2 more games and still win it. If a 3 loss east team pulled off the upset in Atlanta, would they get in the playoff?
Feathers and Fins Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 The only scenario for 2 SEC teams to get in the Playoffs is if FL State looses to a unranked or low ranked opponent then it would be the SEC Champion and the Runner up. If the Board goes by strength of schedule. But we still have no idea how this board is going to rank teams or pick who is deserving. Right now all the "ranked" teams are based off last years BCS ranking system and until this new commission meats and ranks we wont know what to expect. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
ozark trout fisher Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 I bet any amount of money that the 4 teams in the playoff will be, at worst, 7-8th in the polls. They might deviate a bit from conventional wisdom, but college football is so steeped in "tradition" and so resistant to change that I bet everything stays the same except 4 teams instead of 2.
stlfisher Posted September 29, 2014 Author Posted September 29, 2014 Hey, if we can beat GA then we gotta be the fav in the east. Could lose 2 more games and still win it. If a 3 loss east team pulled off the upset in Atlanta, would they get in the playoff? That is great question....with the East appearing to be a bit down you could make the case a 3-4 loss team winning the SEC championship form the East would not deserve to go, but honestly who else would you put in? It would be a hot mess for sure. I still don't think we have seen the best of Mizzou at all, and it was tough to watch the offense struggle so much, but Mauk had no one to throw to all game and when he did he was off. Lee was in the wrong spot several times, Sasser was doubled most of the game. Leftwich was covered on almost every play until his catch. It is tough to do much with rookie wide receivers in already average at best receiving unit. The biggest problem is Mauk does not see downfield well at all. Did anyone else notice on the last two drives he was dropping back a bit deeper in the pocked? I am not sure what they can do, but he has to find away to see the field better. If he does the ceiling could be pretty high for his career. We still don't really now what we have this year....could go in so many different directions.
