A jerk rig is a contraption comprised of an anchor, fastened to a bungee cord, fastened to decoy(s), fastened to string that runs back to the blind. As you pull on the string, the decoys "swim" back and forth putting motion and ripples in your spread. It works awesome on calm shallow ponds when they are glassed over.

I'm trying to get setup where I don't need to go into the water if at all possible.

Now you sound like me. I measure success each season by how many times I have to put on waders. I think I might have went all last season without donning a pair, but I hunted with Billethead one day and he had a 15' shepard's hook that we used to snag the decoys out of the water.

Billethead, where did you say you bought that? It's a handy tool.

Yes I am serious. All you would need is you and your weapon. Ask BirdWatcher I may even supply shells once and a while :)

Drive over to Rogers sporting goods in Liberty if you haven't already. Leave money in vehicle, better yet leave money at home where it I harder to access.

Keep the offer in the back of your mind,

Not so fast. If the OA North contingent is planning a field trip I'm inviting myself along. Don't worry about shells. Billethead will let you shoot his all morning. Actually, don't worry about blinds or decoys either. You can use his on that too. :P Actually, I'm pretty sure last time I hunted with him I left with more gear than I arrived with.

Yes BirdWatcher you can come. Ness would learn more from you. He may even get intrigued at some of our discussions. He may even determine we are a bit touched. Oh the possibilities.

Ness, It sounds like you have a big part of the deal locked up if you have access to land. Scout where the ducks are using and then a dozen decoys and get hid and you will have some success. Best entry call is a haydel DR-85. You can pick one up for less than $20 at Cabelas or Rogers. I have family in the KC area and would gladly drag all my hunting stuff up during season and go with you.

Hey, this is sounding a lot cheaper than I thought!

There is some great info here, If there is an OA North hunt coming count me in and Marty better bring BBQ sauce, I got Salsa and something says a few birds might get told come back later we are eating.

Ness, I have shot Geese over old tires and diapers, Take what Birdwatcher is saying as gospel truth ( Decoys are for hunters ) If they are close enough to tell the brand I bought I better be killing them.

Concealment is more important than any camo pattern this or that, I have shot more ducks and geese wearing jeans and a Columbia shirt than I can count so long as im hidden well and keep movement to a minimum. Lord I wish I remembered where I put it but I have a video from the 40's maybe 50;s of old guys in Plaid red shirts, Brown dress pants and Filson plaid hats.

Your gun is a killing gun A5's have been knocking ducks dead before most of us were borne. just be sure its plugged.

A good decoy bag and a cart isn't a bad idea if you have to walk any distance.

A decoy cart? Ness don't listen to him on that idea. We drive right to our spots by atv and trailer. Well most of the time :)
