Members littlejasper Posted October 24, 2014 Members Posted October 24, 2014 Bo, You are giving up your age!!! Nice collection. That stuff was top notch back in the day. Seen my dad land many big deep bass on those hellbenders. Trolling bluffs mainly in the summer.
fishingaddiction Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 Can't identify the yellow one with the side way bill, but agree with everyone's assessment of the others. My wife's grandfather gave me his collection of lures he used when he fished. He was 94 years old when he passed 8 years ago. I was able to make 6 shadow boxes of different sizes with the lures. I have several lucky 13, river runts, hoodlers, various paw paw bait company lures, pumpkinseed, crazy crawler and many more. They look great on the wall and make a great conversion piece. Sore Thumbs Posted October 24, 2014 Author Posted October 24, 2014 Think I will do that. Does someone make those or did you do it yourself?
Nitroman Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 I think in the bottom picture, 3rd. bait top row ( BLK / SLVR CRANK BAIT ) you have a LAZY IKE NATURAL IKE. Can't tell you how many of them I & the other members of the BASS CLUB I was in @ that time ( WELL OVER 20 YEARS AGO MAYBE 30 ) bought when they came out on the market, never caught a single BASS on one of them !!!!!!! Now the MUD BUG, that's another story. If you like a WIGGLE WART go out & throw that MUD BUG in the same places & see what happens. I have about 10 or 12 left ( NO LONGER MADE ) & will put them up against any other CRAW-DAD imitating crank bait. When the BASS are on a craw-dad bite they are " DYNAMITE " !!!!!!! PS: Lets keep this a secret, please don't tell anyone about them !!!!!!! Rock View Resort Table Rock Lake Greg Pope, Owner/Operator & Fishing Guide
fishingaddiction Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 How deep does the mudbug run? I bought them at Hobby Lobby when they were on sale for 50% off. I wanted the rustic wood look, so I went with those. Also purchased some canvas and glued it to the existing backing, which I think was black. I wanted the different size boxes because I put the lures of the same type in the same box. The number of lures and how they were arranged in the box determined which size box to use. The project was well worth the time and effort and was very reasonable with the 50% off deal. Born to Fish. Forced to Work.
fishingaddiction Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 My bad Thumbs, I quoted the wrong post above. Born to Fish. Forced to Work.
Nitroman Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 The MUD BUG will run @ a depth of approx. 8 ft. using 10 LB test & keeping the rod tip @ the water. But, here are a couple of tricks, the lip is metal not plastic so you can bend it ( CAREFULLY ) down & or up, to make it run deeper ( BEND IT DOWN ) shallower ( BEND IT UP ). Also, a slip sinker on the line will get you greater depth & cause a ( IF YOU PEG IT ) partial suspending action. Rock View Resort Table Rock Lake Greg Pope, Owner/Operator & Fishing Guide

Also, a slip sinker on the line will get you greater depth & cause a ( IF YOU PEG IT ) partial suspending action. way back when we used to have plenty of trees with plenty of branches, we caught a lot of staged spring time bass on wood bombers, with a bullet weight on the line (enough to make it sink), and would catch the big ones that were suspended about 20 ft. down. those old wood bombers would crawl through a lot of limbs without hanging up. mudbugs could be fished the same, and like was stated, either of the could have the angle of the bill adjusted. many of us old timers still use them at the right times. bo
