Sore Thumbs Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 Yeah. I meet Pete last year at Falcon. Good guy. Saw him at Rayburn last week but didn't get a chance to say hi.
Champ188 Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 Pete's a darn fine guy. Fished CPA against him for 5-6 years and enjoyed getting to know him. And he's a very good deep-water guy, along with the Bills (Babler and Beck). But they can have that crap this time of year. I might have to drop-shot and drag a 2-pound football head in the hot summertime but I'm not doing it this time of year. So there. These fish can get shallow or to heck with em. The beauty of not fishing tournaments (to speak of) anymore is when I get enough, I can by God go home and play golf.
Sore Thumbs Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 My favorite time of year for golf Champ. No sweat = better grip. Hit em strait sir.
Champ188 Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 Gotta hit em straight, Jason. Too old and fat to hit em long anymore.
Donna G Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 I am in the Pete Wenners Fan Club. I do like his fishing reports. Straightforward. No embellishment and if he's not catching them good, he says so. Donna G Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 Forecast called for clouds and a bit of rain and that's what it was. I though the clouds might make things good for the buzz bait, but only caught one early on it. Caught some fish on the 1/2 oz FB jig, and ran across a school surface feeding off a point and caught some on the Yozuri pencil popper on top. Caught a double on it, big fish being a 17" Mean. Caught 15 bass total, spots, a Mean, and a couple of 12" smallies. Not one Large Mouth. Fish were scattered and hard to pattern. Caught some on a gravel point, a few in cuts in bluff walls, a couple off deep trees, and some off a dock. But you could catch some off a gravel point for example and then fish another several points and not get a bite. Had a few chase the jig back to the boat, including one pretty good sized bass. Might have been worth a shot to swim a jig or try some cranks. Maybe next time. Water temp 67. HPIM0764.JPG Nice. Doubles sure are fun. Caught a pair a few weeks ago out of schooling fish on a Strike King red eye shad. Throwing a finesse jig is my favorite thing to fish, but there are trips when I'm trying like heck to get a bite, but nothing's happening except for the followers right at the boat. I think the next time that happens consistently, I'll tie on a swim jig. Good thought.
