Jerry Rapp Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 it is hard to believe, but if they win out, and win the SEC championship game, who knows. It was a painful game to watch, and I never thought that a Pinkle defense would win games. Mauk sucked, as he has all year, but he made some plays, legs and arms. Missouri owes Florida a lot!
ozark trout fisher Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 What a bizarre season.....Georgia still has Auburn as a likely loss, so Mizzou can probably afford to lose another game and get to Atlanta at 9-3. Bottom line- we're 7-2, 4-1 in the SEC, and the favorite to play for an SEC title. And yet I'm still not convinced that we're actually any good. Except Shane Ray. He's definitely good. I hope we get to Atlanta, of course. But if it happens, Ole Miss/Auburn/'bama/Miss. State might beat us 50-0. I'm not confident that's an exaggeration.
BATCAB27 Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 Craziness. All of a sudden Mizzou wins games by running the ball, punting and playing defense. Good on Pinkel for realizing thats how they are going to have to win games with this offense. Assuming GA loses to Auburn and Mizzou splits on the road at A&M/Tenn, the border showdown with the hogs will be for all the marbles.
Al Agnew Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 I'd love to be a fly on the wall listening if Pinkel gave Mauk a critique of his play today. It should go something like this: Okay, I can forgive the two or three terrible throws in the first quarter, and you started playing like you're supposed to in the second quarter. But what happened the second half with those backwards scrambles and the horrific pass to Culkin in the end zone, even if he maybe could have caught it??? Bad Maty, good Maty, bad Maty. Didn't help that the o-line once again played soft both run and pass in the second half, though. Mauk might keep improving until he's a pretty decent qb by the end of the year, but he's always going to be limited at least a bit by the o-line.
ozark trout fisher Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 It does seem like Pinkel's choice to hang with Maty could at least work out okay in the end. I didn't support it after the Georgia and Florida offensive performances, but he's at least morphed back into a viable game-manager that doesn't turn the ball over the last two games*. That's barely a shadow of what he showed us last October (and this September, albeit against pretty weak competion) but it's been enough to win some games. And as long as we're contending, a QB change is anywhere from unlikely to completely out of the question. *Although he should have had a pick-six today.
stlfisher Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 I thought Mauk looked much better and the offense is making slow improvemants. Our defense is very good. If we keep improving I like our chances. We are 7-2 with an entirely new offense...grinding out wins is how we are going to win. Kentucky's QB commented after the game how good MU's defense was...best he has seen this year.
ruthead Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 Looks like our defense has progressed enough to keep us in it and it will be up to the offense to score enough points to win it. I agree with Al the offensive line will probably be the determining factor. M.I.Z.... "Pretty soon we may not have any rights left because it might infringe on someone's rights"
Blazerman Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 This team could easily go 3-0 or just as easily 0-3. it is gonna depend on if they can score enough points. Mauk will be the deciding factor and he is not making me feel very confident at all. But they have found ways to win unlike Arkansas which always seems to find ways to lose.
ozark trout fisher Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 That Texas A&M game is looking a lot harder now. Aggies up 28-17 on Auburn right now. This is a team that was last seen losing 59-0 to 'bama and barely slipping past a crappy Sun Belt team. College football is weird.
