Sore Thumbs Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 Do you think this early cold snap will put these fish back to normal seasonal patterns? Seems like they have been behind all year.
Alex Heitman Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 I sure hope it will at least group some fish up or put them in more predictable areas. They are scattered right now. Got out last weekend and it was pretty tough.
Quillback Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 I'm wondering how far and how fast water temps will drop. I would think that a fast, sharp drop would not be good in the short term.
Champ188 Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 This is the earliest/harshest weather system I can recall in my 54 years. I will know more after me and Donna brave the elements Saturday, but I can't see where anything good can come from a sudden drop in water temp like we're sure to experience. Hoping for a Wiggle Wart/jerk bait bite but it might not take me too long to pull out a spoon if I don't get any love on those two.
Sprint21fter Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 I would have killed to be on the lake yesterday as this thing was coming in. I would think maybe it would trigger a big time feeding frenzy as long as the clouds stay around with the wind. I would live or die with a wiggle wart, blade, and jerkbait. Maybe throw a jig around every once in a while.
Champ188 Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 Sprint, I know exactly what you mean about yesterday. I was just glad to be buried in a deadline project at work so I didn't have to look out the window too often. I'll bet the bite was insane for most of the day, at least until the clouds cleared out, which wasn't until late afternoon.
rps Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 I am hopeful that the winter season acts as a reset. Maybe next year will have a top water bite.
Alex Heitman Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 RPS good point. There wasn't much of a schooling fish topwater bite but in the dead heat of the summer I had some great days catching some big LM. They were dead shallow right on the bank when it was 100 degrees out. Couldn't really explain it but it was awesome.
merc1997 Bo Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 guess only time will tell what is going to happen after this extended cold wave. most likely the water temps will drop to the mid 50's. just where the bass are going to end up depends on where the food chain goes. i would guess that the bait fish will head for deeper water, especially with the rapid drop. bo
