Glen you should see the great efforts he goes to to make sure no catfish can even get in the boat to slime it, rather amusing it is... Now that rod he is talking about is supper sweet though I may end up getting a couple.

I've got two. One is the Sam Heaton Supersensitive and the other is the Bucks Original jig pole. I was using the Bucks Original at the time.

They would be a real hoot catching big white bass with them. :-)

Yeah I use a SH 9footer for flipping around docks and shallow brush. I've caught quite a few 3-4lb. bass on it.

I have also ripped the guts out of several of those cheesy little 10$ line holder reels and I need to research which (if any) of those POS things are made better.

The current one I'm using is a Wally Marshall "Deluxe" with a busted anti-reverse pawl. Any recommendations ?

Its a little overkill Glen but the New Lews are real nice both baitcasting http://www.lews.com/casting-teamlewslite.php they are super light and would be great for crappie and with simple respooling bass and Striper. I put one to work earlier this year on a 20lb striper and it was very smooth we switched to crappie later in the day and still very nice. Price is way up there at 239.00 but IMO well worth it. First non-shimano reel I have liked in 20 years.

Quantum from Wal-Mart for $20. Working good for me. Lol! I've got some higher end spinning reels and the thing I look for is anti-reverse. If you cannot reel backwards at all (not even a smidge), it's a decent product. I've had some in the past that would allow the reel handle to roll backwards without the anti-reverse switch flipped. Only a slight amount of movement but it was slack and I didn't like it.

I think it's the Shimano Sahara thats about $25-35. Nice reels. I have about 2 or 3 of them and they are nice quality for the price. Anything else is just show-boating and overkill to me. I've broke and lost too much stuff to buy GLoomis and other overpriced gear. You do get what you pay for but I can feel a bite just as well on lower priced rods. I've held both in my hand and fished with both. I'll take the affordable stuff. But that's just me.
