Thinking of doing some salt water fly fishing and looking for suggestions for Jan or Feb. Considering red fishing in La or Tx or Puerto Rico for Tarpon. Any thoughts from those with experience from any of these locations. Guide suggestions, lodging suggestions, etc. Can you rent boats as well?

In the Banana River area (Florida), Doug Blanton, good guide and will spend extra time with you

In the Mosquito Lagoon area (Florida), John Turcot, crazy interesting dude but a really good guide

In the Tomoka/Halifax river area (Florida), Kent Gibbens, older guy who tells it like it is, funny guy with lots of stories and long time guide

I have fished with each of these guys and had great trips. If you can get a slight warming trend between cold fronts you can have good Redfish/Speckled Trout trips all winter.

Just my .02, hope it will help. These areas cover from Ormond Beach down to the Titusville area (central Florida east coast).

If I could find a job I would move there, regardless of the drawbacks, would be much more enjoyable than Northeast Kansas :)

I've been posting TR's in South region on here from Grand Isle, LA, check my blog for info also. The redfishing is some of the best anywhere. I prefer to use my kayak but Bobby Lynns in Leeville, LA, now Top Water Marina (still using old web name, etc.) rented boats when I was there a few weeks ago (new owner mat not any longer)...15ft carolina skiffs...http://www.bobbylynns.com/boat-rentals.

If you have a kayak and want to use it, I'll can provide some info on launch sites and areas to fish.

As for lodging I like to camp at GI state park...nice, clean, and space...not many visit the island in Jan-Feb so you'll probably have it to yourself. If you prefer a room, Bridgeside Marina has rooms starting at $75....http://www.bridgesidecabinsandmarina.net/id24.html

As far as Jan-Feb...it's the off season, the fishing won't be the best unless the area gets a good warm up. Most everything will be closed or on limited hours. I plan to take my last trip in Dec...after that I don't go back until April. If you can go in Dec, the fishing has been great this year and was last year also.

PM me if you have more questions or need more information. Hope some of this helps.
