LittleRedFisherman Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 Here's some of my cold water lures I've been working on tonight while my wife is out doing the Black Friday madness.First I had my litte boy help me string some new floro on a couple baitcasters, then I started arraging my tacklebox some. The jerkbait in the second pic is a vision 110 jr, I really liked that one last year, as the bass seemed to also. It's an odd color as that was one of the only ones available when I ordered it, but it worked. It's already got some battle wounds! When I wanna go deeper I tend to lean on the pointers, esp that long bill model, it will get down there if need be. Ordered two different kinds of hair jigs i'm gonna try, I think the cumberlands are deer hair, not sure bout the arkies..Got some zoom trailers I may play with also. I"m ready, may hit the current river Saturday! There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!
Norm M Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 I guess it depends on what an effective bite means to the individual angler. I'll fish in 32 degree water for a single fish during the entire outing. In the extreme cold water, it may be a couple , three trips with only one fish to show for it. For myself, it's worth doing , just because I enjoy the challenge . That's one of the great things about fishing, everyone is able to enjoy it in their own way as there is no absolute right way . what a long strange trip it's been , put a dip in your hip, a glide in your stride and come on to the mother ship , the learning never ends
Haris122 Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 I'm with you there Norm. Once winter really gets underway I consider it a good day if there's one fish I caught. I wouldn't mind more, but unless it's trout fishing, I figure it's asking for much to expect more. Could just be my type of fishing being too quick to be effective.

Are you fishing crankbaits, spinnerbaits or topwaters in cold water ? I have had success with all of them as the water temps are falling, just a matter of slowing them down and in some cases going with larger sizes. I have had some success with rattlebaits in cold water when the water temps are rising . Big, fat, dumb, slow, eat me can work in cold water river smallmouth fishing . what a long strange trip it's been , put a dip in your hip, a glide in your stride and come on to the mother ship , the learning never ends

Seth Posted December 3, 2014 Author Posted December 3, 2014 This is Elegy Bone for the megabass 110 This is Herringbone Chartreuse for the Luck E Strike RC STX. Very similar.
LittleRedFisherman Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Yes, it's elgony bone, although it looks a bit different from Seth's pic. http://img.tacklewarehouse.com/new_product/MB110JR-EB-1.jpg There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!
drew03cmc Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 The lighting in the room explains the difference. The STX is a rip off if you weren't aware of that. The hardware on them is very, very cheap and while they are cheaper, after you upgrade your hooks and split rings, you could have bought a 110. I have three X-80 Trick Darters and their action is crazy. The colors I bought were GP Pro Blue II, French Pearl OB and Megabass Sexy Shad. The PB II accounts for my PB spot, 17". I understand being shocked that baits can cost $25 each, I was, but these are purchases that should last long enough to pay for themselves. Andy
Seth Posted December 3, 2014 Author Posted December 3, 2014 The RC STX has yet to give me any issues with the split rings or hooks like I've heard so much about. I would rather take my chances on an $8 lure first and see how it performs versus dropping $25 on a lure that I've read countless stories about how the bill broke off. I'll just keep catching fish on my cheap knock offs and you can have fun calling them junk to justify paying $25 for an identical bait. It really doesn't hurt my feelings and the fish don't care either. They produce enough fish for me to be satisfied. Based on recent trips, the fish sure didn't seem to care or notice that my buddies bait costs 3 times the price of mine.
