I just stated a truth, that he can't complete a pass over 20 yards. It was a windy night and it's tough for either QB to look good. But I think you could safely say that just about any KC fan would gladly trade Smith for Manning in a straight up trade.

Smith's numbers aren't that good overall, which is the real bottom line. According to this comparison he's ranked 23rd in the NFL.http://espn.go.com/nfl/qbr If you look at yardage alone he is 21st.

So I guess if you think a QB that is ranked around the 20 mark in the NFL isn't "That bad overall", that's fine with me. But I'd say he is just average at best.

And another excuse I hear for Smith not being able to get the ball downfield is that "he doesn't have any capable WR's". But looking at Dwayne Bowe's stats, his worst year as far as yards receiving was last year (except for 2009 when he played in only 11 games). This year he is on a pace for his 2nd worst year as far as yardage. What a coincidence that his QB in these two years is Smith.

Bowe has never been a great receiver and he never will be. Smith has never been a great QB and he never will be. There is a big difference between good and great.

You can't have a passing game when you are not a threat. Some will say that they can't have a passing game when they can't stop the pass rush. But you know what also stops the pass rush? When they get burned by the long ball. The long ball isn't going to happen so they will just keep coming.

I've been like a lot and always wanted there to be an excuse for Smith, but the current system is not working for him. Looks like they are going to change up the O-Line and maybe that helps but if their only two plays are going to be handoff to Charles or out in the flat to Thomas then they are toast.

BTW, I did not mean to imply that I though Bowe was a great receiver. Just that his stats have suffered under Smith.

Oh I know. And how pathetic is that?!

Your ESPN chart doesn't say much Quillback. It doesn't take into account strength of schedule for one thing and there are 2 QB's in the top 10 who are 5 and 7. The real stats from Sunday point to poor blocking up front as the main reason for the fiasco. As far as long passes go, you have to have backs that can get seperation downfield, you have to have time for it to develop, and you have to have the play called. You don't get long pass threats from the free agents. Bowe is only a short yardage threat and Kelsic has cut into his opportunities big time.

KC's big weapon is Charles, but when they, the opposition, can stop him there is not going to be a serious passing game no matter who's at QB.

While you want to put it on Smith you might note that he had a higher rating then Manning ffor the game and Manning was only sacked once.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

You've got to pin most of this on the o-line. Smith's a decent quarterback, and Charles is a great running back. They were both smothered most of the game. I just think the matchup on the line was poor that night. We've got a decent line.
