duckydoty Posted January 13, 2007 Posted January 13, 2007 Had to go get my Mom in north Springfield last night. She lost power around 8:00 P.M. . I have a generator just incase, so I figured we all could tough it out at my house. I lost power a couple of times last night but it is on for right now. Trees down everywhere. Saw at least 10 transformers blow last night while driving to get my Mom. Sure is pretty, all the ice and blue flashes. Gonna be a rough couple of days for quite a few folks around here Duckydoty A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at.. Ozark Trout Runners
LostMyWife Posted January 13, 2007 Posted January 13, 2007 Freeze line stayed north of the St Louis area for the most part. I have icy trees and a thin glaze on my deck. Weather guys still calling for the end of civilization. I think they get more out of their doomsday weather forecasts than they get from sex. That's why they only show them from the waist up. Bottomline is that we are 33 degrees. We had a lot of rain and a little ice. LMW Yes, I'm That Guy

Terry Beeson Posted January 13, 2007 Posted January 13, 2007 Nixa was right on the freeze line yesterday afternoon. Drizzle started freezing on the trees. Lost power about midnight, back on at 2:30 am... Then off again about 5am, on at 6 off at 7, on again at 10:30.... Streets are OK... just the trees and power lines suffering. SKMO Posted January 13, 2007 Posted January 13, 2007 Here in Shell Knob at 11:30 still 34 degrees and liquid. Talked w/folks in Monett and they got hammered last night, guess the critical temp is still stalled somewhere in the middle of Barry County. Also talked with a guy south of Cassville and they started icing last night. Anyway no ice here right next to the lake. Have never figured this out as I thought cold air sank and it would be colder in the lake valley, but it is always colder up on the plateau/mountains. Warmer around the lake. Doubt if it has anything to do with "lake effect" i.e. lake water would affect the air temp that much. So explain this: Cold air sinks due to density, yet higher elevations are colder as well. I have 3 days to figure this out I guess as I do not have the Cajones to venture forth this weekend. Quillback Posted January 13, 2007 Posted January 13, 2007 1 PM right now in Bella Vista, temp around 29. Roads wet but not icy, trees and power lines are icy. Lost power from 0330-1030 this AM, glad to have it back, I just hope it stays on for the playoff games! Forecast is for heavy icing this afternoon and night, I hope they are wrong! Lots of rain last night, Beaver should be getting a good shot of water.
MTM Posted January 13, 2007 Posted January 13, 2007 SKMO- My guess as to why the temp's are warmer at the lake is the water it's self. It is just to warm and holds the air temp up. Now if it froze you would get cold temps at the lake, I live on a hill about 300 feet above town and it will be 2 too 5 dregrees warmer at my house than down town on any given day. So you are right cold air does sick. But when you have a large body of warmer water it will hold the temps up. Ron You folks be careful if you have to go anywere.
Kansas Fly Fisher Posted January 13, 2007 Posted January 13, 2007 3:45p.m. SE Kansas holding it's own. We got about 2 inches of sleet, no ice. The power lines and trees are fairing well. It's 21 degrees outside now. The weather guru's are calling for rain turning to freezing rain tonight and tomorrow with some snow mixed in. Overall I think they say about 5 inches total. We'll see? Hope everyone is holding up and being safe. John Born to Fish, Forced to Work KSMEDIC.COM
Rusty Posted January 13, 2007 Posted January 13, 2007 I talked to my brother, who lives in Springfield, Mo., and he said there are an estimated 125,000 without power in Springfield at this moment. Some as early as 10:00 pm last night, that still don't have power. Could be 3-4 days before power is restored.
Mikey Posted January 13, 2007 Posted January 13, 2007 Hmm..not to brag, but in the fort smith river valley, we're sitting at 35 with drizzle right now. Did get a heckuva lotta rain before the noon hour though. All creeks and ditches were border line flooding the roads. I gotta leave at 6:30 for work in the morning. If I can get outta my driveway.
