Quillback Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Yesterday was tougher for me than last Wednesday, caught some bass, but not nearly as many bites. Ended up with 8 total, biggest was a 2.5 Largemouth that ate a Wart. It was my only Wart fish. Picked up a couple others on a jerk bait and the rest came on a Ned. I'm blaming it on the north wind. But I see Donna and Champ had a good day, so they were biting. I was fishing the jerk bait on a point inside a cove, caught a couple of spots on the Ned off the point, and came back again tossing the JB. Working it hard with a few pauses on the retrieve. About my 3rd cast felt a little bump as I was working it back, didn't know if it was a fish or maybe it had deflected off some wood, paused the bait right at the boat, and a second later a nice bass, looked to be 4-5 lbs. swam up, took a look, and turned around and disappeared. Neat to see, but sure would've liked to hook that one. A couple of more casts, again did a bait pause, another bass slowly swims up, a keeper, but not as big as the other one, it comes in head pointing at the side of the JB, and stops about a foot from the JB. It sits there for maybe one or two seconds, motionless, then slowly swims up to the bait, puts it's nose right on it like it was sniffing it or something, then turns around and slowly swims off. Must not have liked the color. Water temps were 48-50. The Wart fish: A Ned keeper - note the mark hallway up the body, had some similar damage on the other side, looks like something tried to eat it.
Champ188 Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Neat story about the fish coming up and looking at your jerk bait. Haven't had that happen but sure have had a lot of really good fish and a few giants follow a Redfin nearly all the way to the boat with their nose right on the tail of the bait. Enough to give a guy an aneurysm. The teeth marks on that bass look like a gar, especially considering there's a matching set on the other side.
Donna G Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Followers will drive you crazy. Nice Wart fish. I think I've had 3-4 Wart "skunk" trips now. It seems that most folks are catching fish on it, but I can't get bit. Our primary weapon yesterday in the Kings was a JB. Caught a couple on blade and swim bait. Other than that it was JB all day. Felt like I gave the Wart a chance on some good looking stuff and Champ through it, too. Same on the jig. Everyone knows how much I like a finesse jig, but no takers. Funny, one of the keeper JB fish I caught had crawdad antennae sticking out of it's throat. lol Nice pics and thanks for the report. denjac Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Donna, he had the antenna sticking out of his mouth so he could pick up the mizzu game. Good thing you caught him so he didn't have to watch it. Fish24/7 Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 not bad QB, sounds like maybe your bass were looking for a "slow riser" jb instead of a "dead stick" ? slow risers can make followers eat man if you're not using scents on your hard baits you should be...

Thanks for the info - I should have stuck with the JB a little longer. I threw a jig for a while also, but could not get an takers on it.
