J-Doc Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 If that's what it takes to keep a kid safe and find them even if some are over reacting or vendictive spouses.... .. Amber away I say. The important thing is keeping kids safe. if getting eyes on a car would get my kid found or back to me from a questionable situation.....I'd he thankful for the system. It works. For full on criminal situations and domestic. Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. He has been a great mechanic with lots of patience!
fishinwrench Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 Yeah I've heard that ordeal play out over the scanner a bunch of times. Mom is pissed because she has plans and dad is running a little later than expected, and doesn't answer her calls right away because he'd rather enjoy the time with his kid instead of listening to her bitch at him over the phone. So in order to "get his undivided attention" (cuz there's nothing an ex-wife hates worse than being temporarily ignored) she calls out the swat team, omitting the fact that dad DID text to say they were stopping for a bite to eat. Of course she never got the text. Pretty typical scenario.
hoglaw Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 That is not what happened here. A drunk and dangerous guy snatched his roommates child and left the state. They were not in a relationship. And I don't agree with you diminishing the importance of kidnapping when it happens by a relative. The vast majority of abductions are by relatives -strangers really don't steal kids very often. The typical ex husband kidnapper went through an awful divorce and for one reason or another lost not only custody but visitation as well. That means they are bad news. So they take the kid and defy the law, or they think "if I can't have you no one will" Bad news bears. Relative kidnappings are very scary and just as news and alert worthy as one done by a stranger. Fortunately they found this one. It was scary for a while.
hoglaw Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 And I didn't fully read your post. Yes mom's call the cops when dad's visitation takes too long. Yes dad's call the cops when mom doesn't show up to drop off the kid in time. But those don't generate amber alerts. That's a completely different scenario and has nothing to do with this, or kidnapping in general.
