Recently moved back to St;. Louis after living 35 years on the gulf coast. Fished exclusively in saltwater the entire time. So now I need to start building a new freshwater tackle bag. I have read the board frequently and searche quite a bit. I like to fish for bass all 3 varieties, walleye and crappie. Need suggestions on spinner baits, crankbaits, and soft plastics including colors. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I lived in St. Louis for the first 22yrs of my life and as I got older fished a lot but no where near the variety of items available as there is today.

Excellent first list Riverwhy.

To his list add a walk the dog top water bait and a popper top water. (Zara Spook Jr. and Chug Bug are inexpensive but good examples)

Add a vertical jigging spoon such as a War Eagle, a Cabelas Realimage, or a Bass Pro XPS spoon - white and silver

Lastly, search the Ned rig threads on this forum and acquire the needed parts and equipment to fish it because it works.

Bobby Garland Crappie baits all of them work well.

Keitechs swing impact with 1/4oz heads

I am a firm believer in KISS!

Start with the ned and expand from there. Also second the Bobby Garland suggestion on Crappie.

Thanks for the replies. I have read a lot of information here as well as other online information about the ned rig.

You know that Ned Rig is just a gimmick...

It all depends on the time of year you want to fish and what body of water. I don't start walleye fishing Jan. 16th and on the Mississippi. And use a lot of night crawler rigs with spinners on them. I will go to T. Hill and do some crappie fishing right about now too. Bass fishing depends on the time of the year. If it's spring, summer, and fall and not in a tournament I fish 90% top because it's awesome to me to watch a big bass blow something up. The other 10% is a lot of crank baits and wacky rigged plastic worms.

If your gonna be fishing around st louis....worry about finding fish first. It can be tough but very possible to catch bass walleye and crappie within an hr of st louis. Busch wildlife is a great place to start for bass and crappie. Lots of little ones but giants are there for both. Walleye...good luck lol. Probe rivers starting now for em. What all the other guys said is gold. Great lists.

Wont just be fishing around St. Louis. After living in Texas for the last 20 years I have no problem leaving St. Louis on Friday evening and making a run to BulL Shoals to fish Sat and part of Sunday.
