What Size And Type Of Boat

Recommended Posts

Biggest question is, do you flip jigs for bass? And a lot. If no, deep V if you plan on trolling or being in rougher water often. Which will happen during summer months with wake boats churning the surface.

I got a new Ranger RT188 and it's great. A new Tracker 190 is a good option too. You can get smaller I'm the 17ft range but anything smaller is too small for Bull and other large lakes.

I troll often and sometimes wish I had the deep v. It's just a bigger vessel and great setup for trolling. But I also enjoy bass fishing so I went with the RT for now. My next boat may very well be a deep v.

I went with a tracker Proteam for the reason I can hunt, fish and get bait from it. which means getting in shallow water often. I can fish for anything from it, and its safe and stable in some nasty water. I suggest looking and test driving many boats till you find the one you like and fits your needs best.

Most definitely shop around.

Compose a listing of what you want.

Compose a listing of absolute must haves. After looking and shopping, that list may grow.

Find the brand/boat that fits the bill the best. Look at all brands, makes and models. Don't have buyers remorse. Shop and buy with absolute confidence.

You can do a lot of shopping right on your puter. Look up Tracker, G III, Lowe, Xpress just to name a few. See the floor plans, storage, motor capacity, seating arrangements, etc. There are a lot of options out there. I will make 2 suggestions: 1. Don't under power the boat, and 2. Get a good 24v trolling motor in at least the 70# thrust range. You can always back off on power but you can't squeeze more out of an undersized unit.

I have a 2010 tiller steer Alumacraft Navigator 165 with a 75 HP Etec. The company has discontinued that line by creating several alternatives, but I highly recommend the company and the size/type of boat. I am safe in the summer when the wake boats tear up the main lake, and I can go way up the White River above Beaver town. You should check out Lund as well.

If I was going to get an aluminum lake boat, 10 times out of 10 it would be a deep Vee 18' with a big trolling motor and maybe a 60 big motor.

I had a big deep wide 18'6" semi vee and it was a punisher any time the wind was up or there were many boats out.
