Quillback Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Table Rock fishing report, Big M area. Finally, a warm day, it was a great day for this time of the year to get out and do some fishing! I did not get too far from the Big M area, I targeted points and cove mouths with the Ned rig to start the day. Fishing was slow, and finding them is the hard part. I found two cove mouths that held a few fish, common characteristic was cove mouths with trees in water 10-30 feet deep. It sure wasn't a hot bite, but caught a half dozen on the Ned, one being a solid keeper largemouth. Had to fish a 1/8 oz Ned, deep and slow off the bottom to get bites. Late in the morning and into the afternoon, it really got breezy, couldn't fish the Ned in some of the other spots I wanted to try, just too frustrating trying to work it deep and slow when you've got white caps. Started throwing a 110 around, and I found a shallow, rocky bank with a breeze on it and afternoon sun, picked up 4 largemouth relatively quickly on the 110, and picked up another one going back down the bank with a Ned. 3 of them were chunky keepers. These fish were all shallow, none deeper than 10 feet. Water temps ranged from 39-42.
Champ188 Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Will piggyback off your report, QB, if you don't mind. Donna and I started out at Old 86. Late start (lines in at 10 a.m.) and really struggled to get anything going despite water temps being 45-46 everywhere. Had wind, too, perhaps a little too much for this time of year. Ended up catching two keeper LMs in Cow Creek around 1 p.m. on a stickbait. At 2 p.m., decided to load up and start back toward Bella Vista, stopping at Sweetwater up in the Kings. Been catching some grub fish up there and was pretty sure the school would still be around. What I didn't know was that the recent rain was enough to muddy the water up there, so it was 41 and very dingy when we launched. Ran downriver to just below Viola and managed two short LM on the stickbait and a short K on the Ned. Lost a big fish just before dark on the stickbait. Never saw it but it "ticked" the bait pretty good like a big LM or walleye. Never saw it but got it halfway to the boat before it pulled off. By the way, if you have a blue/silver BassCat with a Yamaha and you came racing upriver about 4:30 p.m. and stopped on the bluff end right below Viola Marina, learn some manners. Amazon surely has books that could help you develop some common courtesy. Inside 100 yards is too close to another boat when there's all kinds of other places to fish.
dtrs5kprs Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Nicely done. I spent the day trimming sprues on jigs and watching Duke pound the Cardinals. Ended up with enough sprues to pour about eight pounds of ingots. That is a pile of trimming. Productive all around.
abkeenan Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Champ, Saw your rig at 86 (assuming seeing Ranger trailer with the Ozark Anglers sticker along with the GMC and BassX and War Eagle on the back windshield with a Razor backs front plate) when I pulled by just to check out how many guys were at the ramp after getting batteries tested at Wally World and some tires put on the trailer. Unfortunately I had motor issues....again and was unable to fish yesterday or today. So brother and I left last night out of frustration and came back to STL. Ugh. I hate boats. Bass Enforcer 1
Quillback Posted January 18, 2015 Author Posted January 18, 2015 Sorry to hear about your boat problems ab.
Champ188 Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Dang abk, sucks about the motor problems. Hope it's nothing serious. Indeed that was our GMC truck. Dirty rascal, huh? LOL
