Ham Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 I took one of my daughters friends out for an afternoon on the White. Sunny, warm, and just the right amount of water. I honestly expected to catch over 100 pretty easily, but that was when I was believing that the wind wasn't going to be bad. Wind really screwed me up today. We fished from noonish to about 5 pm. I launched out of Buffalo City and fished up and down a river a few miles. We fished Brown/Orange and Olive/ Ginger in the 1/8 oz size since I had about 2000 CFS water. I actually kept a few trout for supper tonight. The trout cakes are cooking right now. Going to have that with a salad and Mac and cheese. I finished up with 74 fish to hand. Nothing too big. Maybe got a couple of 15 inch fish. Only one small Brown. Not cutties. No Brookies (shocker right?). The fish were biting just like I expected, but wind made boat control and strike detection very difficult. Saw turtles, mink, Deer, Eagles, and a lama today Newsflash though, Richard Cross is working on a second generation Crossfire rod. Lighter rod and he's considering mini guides as well to reduce weight even more. I'm going to be giving one of the prototypes a test run over the next little while. I heard you on the wind, but still a great day sounds like! Looking forward to the 28th! Sweet on trying out the prototype, hope you have it by the time we go fishing! There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!
Terrierman Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 It was windy Saturday too. But still a very welcome January warm spell. I'm interested in hearing what you think about the new rod.
Ham Posted January 19, 2015 Author Posted January 19, 2015 Prototype is in my possession. Richard fished with sone of his peeps. I met him on his way home More intell. A heavy hook Zig Jig is being developed using a steelhead hook. Specialty market for giant trout in lakes. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
mhowerton Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 I fished Saturday afternoon out of Shipps Ferry. The wind was too rough for me to try jigs for the first time. I threw a rapala and a Panther Martin and had good success. Looking forward to learning more about fishing these jigs on the river.

A heavy hook Zig Jig is being developed using a steelhead hook. Specialty market for giant trout in lakes. Let Richard know that fishing jig for steelhead in the rivers of the PAC NW is very popular. Don't know how he'd market them out there, lots of competition, but they do get used. Salmon will eat jigs also at times, very effective way to catch chums is a chartreuse jig underneath a float. Let me know what you think of that new rod as a Ned rod if you don't mind. Ham 1

Saturday seemed a lot more windy than Sunday AND Sunday had more wind than I wanted, A lot more. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
Ham Posted January 19, 2015 Author Posted January 19, 2015 Richard is selling jigs in a lot more areas than I would have ever guessed. Utan, Montana, California, PNW, Nevada, and the list goes on. There is some lake that has mutanat Cutthoarts. Fish up to 40 pounds. They shake off 7-8 lbers trying to "get to the bigger ones". They are slinging them on flyrods with straight 12 lb leaders. Crap. The standard Zig Jig can't hold up to the pressure they are putting on these brutes. I will do a full opinion piece on the Second Gen Crossfire. I have used my Crossfire for creek smallies including Ned Rigs. I catch fish on it, but it wouldn't be my first choice for a Ned rod, but we will see. I suspect if it does the Zig Jig deal well, it won't be perfect for a Ned. A drop shot rod is a good place to start with the Ned. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future.
