Johnsfolly Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 I got out first thing this morning and drove 20 minutes (longer trip due to the snow/rain) and had a line in by 6:50 am this morning. Within 2 minutes, I was landing the first trout of the morning. I was fishing Gulp salmon eggs about 8 inches off of the bottom. By 8:05 am, I was packed up with four in the box and heading to work. I won't make any excuses. I love to catch trout and I enjoy sharing them with my family. I would normally have to drive 115 miles or more to go trout fishing. So I really enjoy the urban trout program. Yes the fish on the opening of the catch and keep season are fairly easy to catch with bait. However, they do taste good grilled, baked, pan-fried, or in chowder, etc. I look at this program as the MDC's version of the "The Lottery" where the barbarism of killing and eating trout is done in a way such that those wild trout areas that are pristine or held in higher accord, like, Blue Springs, Mill Creek, Spring Creek, etc. are not affected by my predatory tendencies. I will enjoy the fish during tonight's Super Bowl and am already planning my next trout fishing trip to get four more for the box.
podum Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 Well said. That's what the program is for. I wish I had more time more than I wish I had more money.
Members ALLSTAR1 Posted February 6, 2015 Members Posted February 6, 2015 This is a really good program. Had 8-10 nice afternoons with catch and release. Then able to keep a few for lunch. I do still throw a lot back if not deeply hooked. Lots of folks take advantage. Even on a miserable day I would estimate about 200 anglers hit Bethel Park and most left happy, maybe a bit wet but happy. The fish get caught out pretty quick if the weather is good but they will only die eventually. Kinda wish we could get one more stocking for march', april but I know that is not in the budget.
