Al Agnew Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 I've wade fished mineral fork for close to 10 years now and the last two years(both times have been around July) i've seen the same individual on a river pro jet going down stream from the low water bridge to all the way down past the access. Both of those years I wrote letters to MDC to try and encourage them to put a stop to that. They won't. In fact, they probably don't have the authority to. Or at least they want no part of limiting jetboats and ticking off another group of people. We need a friendly landowner and somebody with some earth-moving equipment to dump a bunch of really big boulders in some fast-water area of the Mineral Fork to put a stop to that crap.
BilletHead Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Boy I don't know what the problem you might be referring to on this river but I would never out of all the folks on this forum expect this from you Al, We need a friendly landowner and somebody with some earth-moving equipment to dump a bunch of really big boulders in some fast-water area of the Mineral Fork to put a stop to that crap. This would be like throwing out nails on the road or stringing a rope across a trail to close line someone, BilletHead "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!" joeD Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Where is there a low water bridge on the Mineral? A jet boat in July? Hmm. Never seen a jet boat ever on that stream. F? No Hazels? No 47? No Kingston (MDC)? No Puzzled about jet boats on the Mineral.
Smallieguy87 Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 It's not far up from the access and the only way to it from dugout road is on private property. And yes a river pro jet in July on more then one occasion. I didn't think people got them on the fork either but apparently they do.
joeD Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 But is the guy fishing? It's the other people who are actually decimating the Fork.
Smallieguy87 Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 It can be hard to see but you can find it on google earth. It goes across the stream and connects with a gravel road leading to some of the farms on the opposite bank.
Smallieguy87 Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Oh I know the locals tend to hurt the stream more then he is. I haven't seen him fish. Mostly just run up and down the stream. I'm thinking he comes from out of town and just gets the boat out for cruising.
Al Agnew Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Billethead, although it was said tongue in cheek, in reality I've always thought something like this would work to stop people from taking jetboats into places they really shouldn't be. Mineral Fork is simply too small for anybody to run it with a jetboat. And note I said "really big" boulders. I'm not talking about rocks that would be just under the surface at July water levels, I'm talking boulders big enough to stick well above the surface and close enough together to allow small watercraft to fit between them but not bigger boats. Not like nails on a road, more like boulders dumped across the entrance to a road that you don't want people on.
BilletHead Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Yes I took it this way tongue in cheek Al but again with all this talk on and off about stream access wading and canoeing it kind of got me riled up. Discriminate about an idiot and you discriminate us all. If it a place he really shouldn't be he will pay for it tearing up his rig. I love your passion for creeks and smallmouth but me Joe Public and all the Joe Public's shouldn't be chastised and kept from our waters. Forgive me for being grumpy last night. Kind of like seeing your access laws you have in Montana compared to what the Mrs. and I deal with when we spend our two weeks in Wyoming. So much more fishable water you have. I would never hope you loose what you have up there. Speaking of which we are planning on spending the bulk of our time in Montana when we go this summer. If I may I will be picking your brain for places we don't know about, BilletHead "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!" Gavin Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 That creek is pretty small. Maybe 150 CFS worth of flow on the lower end. Often not floatable in the upper reaches. I'm sure that a Riverpro could run it, but why? It's a short haul to ramps up our downstream on the Big. Smallieguy87 1
