Alex Heitman Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 Got the boat out of storage finally. Got out about 830 Saturday morning and caught some K's and LM around docks and points. Just looked for some chunky rock with deep water close by. Total was about 15 for the day I believe with 2 SM in the mix. All keepers except 1 K. Caught most fish on jerkbait and the spro crawler crawler after the the water and wind picked up in the afternoon. Water temp was around 47 degrees in the afternoon. Caught the K in the pic below on the 2nd cast with the Rock crawler. Hit it like a freight train. Fished this morning and mainly threw the jerker because the water temps had cooled off some and the sun was not out. Caught 4 and had a few other followers I saw chasing the jerkbait back to the boat when I was reeling in. Caught the bigger girl below on a point probably in less than 10 feet of water. I cranked the jerker down a few times and one twitch then bam. I thought I was hung at first. Really thought she was a lot bigger by the way she fought. All in all a great trip and glad to be back out on the water. Can't wait to come back down next weekend.
Quillback Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 Nice ones Alex! I was looking at my notes from last year, closest day to todays date that I was out was Feb. 16th - I recorded water temps of 37-39. Looks to be a bit warmer this year.
Bill Babler Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 Great day. I could not turn a pop cap http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
Alex Heitman Posted February 8, 2015 Author Posted February 8, 2015 It was weird yesterday. I think the fish are starting to move a lot. Looked for deep fish and couldn't find any shad or fish to speak of. That was a waste of money on ice jigs on Friday haha. I couldn't catch more than one or and two fish out of a location if I was lucky. Fish here and there. I will say I love the rock crawler. I was making long cast with 10lb line and ticking bottom up to 14 ft.
Champ188 Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 Nice job, Alex. Good to hear the fish are moving around and that the Rock Crawler is gonna be a good one. I suspected there might be some staging activity going on from where we found them last weekend. Just afraid I'm getting all pumped up for nothing. We shall see. Glad you had a good day.
troutgnat Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 I was on upper Bull today and had a great day....(posted report) and just as you it seemed it was a fish here or a fish there but all on similar bank features. I only ran into two pods of fish and took 3 fish from them both times. Darren Sadler "Fishing is an Education...Often the fish 'school' me, yet I do not complain. I just keep going to class!"
Bass Enforcer Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 Great job Alex. I think I need to invest in some crawlers.
gitnby Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 I was also out around KC today from 2 till dark. 5 fish, 3 keeps 15-16 1/2", 2 K's 1 SM All on PBJ Ned off chunk rock in 12-18' in White's branch and Fisher creek wind made it pretty tough to feel the bite Also had 3 bites on FB jig sitting in 40 FOW throwing into 25'. 2 of the bites were absolute lightning bolts! Can't figure why I missed them? I'm usually deadly on the hookset with the FB. First time using the Jewel 3/4 oz, normally use Chompers. Not sure, but maybe the barrel head and the weedguard/hook setup on the Jewel were factors?
