fishinwrench Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 A floating bug doesn't have to "pop" for bluegills. Therefore it's hard to beat a simple little piece of craft foam with some rubber legs hanging off of it. Land it with a Splat! And give it a few twitches. If nothing bites it, go somewhere else or switch to a slow sinking *something* with rubber legs hanging off of it.
ness Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 I tie/make most of the flies I use for pan fish. Hard styrofoam popper bodies, foam spiders, ants, hoppers, whatever -- they're not picky. I'll tie a nymph dropper to the surface stuff sometimes. Fishing for gills from a float tube is a lot of fun. John
bs1827 Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 I've been tying a bunch of Mini Hoppers that I'm planning on using for bluegill this year. Should be a good bug! Here's a link: http://azwanderings.com/flies/mini-hoppers/
