I spent a lot of time in a canoe last year, starting with a 2-week trip into Canada's Quetico Wilderness. There were a lot of smallmouths in between, culminating in a 4-day float/camping trip last fall with my good friend, Bill Cooper, on the Jack's Fork and Current rivers. Even though we went without seeing another soul for 9 days during the Canada trip, I think I actually enjoyed the fall float right here in the Ozarks more.

I think I know that spot.

I'm sure I know that feeling. Love these Ozarks hills and their creeks and what we call rivers around here. Love them.

My best trip as far as the numbers and size of fish caught was to a Minnesota river at the end of summer, but certainly some of my best trips as far as the pure experience were on rivers in the Ozarks. Nothing really stands out this past year; a few trips to rivers I hadn't been on in a long time, a number to old, familiar waters. All were terrific.

February float with a good group. It never got above freezing but was pretty comfortable (no wind). One of the group caught a very nice winter smallie (on the cover of the Bronze Back News) and I enjoyed seeing the structure on the bottom of the river that is usually not seen at other times of the year. Never a bad season to be out.

Did not make it out of state in 14. Some great day floats on the Black & Big Piney though. Piney best with 3 hours of solid top water fly action.

2014 was a great year of fishing for me,

but I see no reason that 2015 won't be every bit as good. I fished in 4 states last year. I'm hoping to expend that out to at least 5 this year, but maybe I get that number up to 6.

I saw the video of your trip with Bill on his facebook page. Looked like a great trip.

I saw your video too, looked like a great trip. I didn't get to fish as much last year but we did spend a week at our place near the upper Jacks Fork. Had a fun canoe day and a few mid day trips that allowed me to fish some while my daughter and wife swam in the river. Best fish of the week was a 17 inch smallie but saw several better ones. I have my sights set on them this year.

Hard to beat the Grand Slam of the Quetico Ron!! Need to get back up there soon!! Bailey and I enjoyed the overnighter we did with you last year. Although fishing was slow due to river levels we had a very enjoyable time...Think it was very hot as well!! Had another good trip with Greasy B I think in July?? Fishing was good and had a nice time on gravel bar. For numbers and size it was on my home lake in Hayward. Very late ice-out for second straight year. On my 50th birthday we got into some real pigs. Lake is very clear and that day it was like glass. We caught and released several fish over 20 and one that was pushing 22.
