There is a huge difference between dove hunting and deer hunting. And a huge difference between shotguns and rifles.

The chief has spoken......... Deer hunters ARE more valuable than dove hunters!

In the name of tourism?

In the name of $$$$?

I think he was referring to the weapons, not the value of the game.

Agents are people just like the rest of us. They make mistakes. I don't think you can fault MDC for something an agent did, said or mannerisms. MDC policy is another matter. One can find issues with policy and that's what this conversation should be about.

The dove hunting "roust" wasn't just a one agent one time thing, I try to obey the letter of the law and have no problem at all showing my compliance. Either before the hunt or after the hunt, not in the heat of the chase!

And I still know a couple of guys who hunt deer with a bow and arrow...... Just like in the old days!

Peace

My biggest complaints about MDC was in the lifetime license, it should have at least 1 deer and 1 turkey tag included in it. The other complaint was they seem to cater more to deer hunting than anything else. I would really wish they had a good waterfowl hunting area in the SW area of the state something on Par with 4-rivers and my final complaint is they need to do more for Quail, with grow out technology the way it is and simple planting of fence rows or just hedges on their properties they could really help bring quail numbers way up.

All are simple things but in the long run they take money and that money from what I have seen from MDC takes away from Deer, Lumber and actually involves a commitment to things other than deer. Don't get me wrong I like deer hunting but there is far more to the outdoors than deer. And yes I do have a lifetime Mo license so I did invest in Mo when I lived there.

I always love when I hear the complaint that they cater to the Deer hunters. Now just how do they cater to Deer hunters?

And just where in southwest Missouri would you like for them to build a wildlife area on par with Four Rivers?

Scott???

Heck yea, in the heat:-)

It was 97 degrees in the shade on opening day of dove season:-)

And not trying to be hostile, just calling a spade a spade

Here's my gripes.

1. Don't close 99.9% of conservation areas to antlerless season deer hunts. Otherwise what's the point of antlerless season if you have to either own private land, lease private land, or drive 3 hours or such, just to get to a small, marginal conservation area that probably doesn't even support deer, and is only therefore open to antlerless season. Especially now that they intend to cut it down to 3 days.

2. Whoever came up with the rule that any rifle ammunition that attracts a magnet, can't be used at the Jay Henges shooting range really needs to learn the difference between what an armor piercing round is, and what a cheap bi-metal jacketed ordinary lead core round is. Cause the two are not the same, and frankly it has restricted my shooting enjoyment by A LOT simply because of some poorly researched (if researched at all) prejudiced BS. That one is my biggest gripe.

3. Lower the restrictions for certain species of permissible non-game fish allowed to keep. Just cause some fish are non-game doesn't mean they successfully reproduce in such high numbers that even more limited fishing pressure (as far as number of people interested in catching them) causes. Not all non-game fish reproduce as quickly as say a sunfish. Some of that I feel also applies to other animals too, but can't think of anything in particular, aside maybe coyote since the season for them is almost never-ending.

I may think of some more later but those are it for now.
