dtrs5kprs Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 If you put in at Big M, Viney, or at Eagle Rock and specify upstream from there you have a lot of good water, well protected from wind issues, and you avoid most (not all) of the wake boat crap. Exactly. You could even go Cape Fair and up. On Truman we would fish from Long Shoal and only allow the Grand River arm, etc.
gramps50 Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 Might get some interest at tinboats.net, bunch of guys there with tin boats. Daryk Campbell Sr 1

Bill Anderson Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 Never saw a boat made from tin....the first metal small fishing boats were made right after World War 2 by Grumman. The company had to find new products or its aluminum aircraft factories, since demand for planes almost stopped stopped after the war. Making aluminum fishing boats was a gold mine and started a new industry. I would not want a glass boat...too heavy, wastes horse power/gasoline, will bust if you hit something, will fade from the sunshine and just too expensive. Aluminum is many times more durable, lighter, and can get by with a much smaller motor for the same speed as a glass boat. That can make it cheaper to buy, cheaper to operate and it will last longer with less upkeep. Just my preference. Bill Dance has been a friend for 35 years, and I once filmed several TV shows for him. While sitting in a big Hydrosport glass boat with him on Horseshoe Lake in Eastern Arkansas, we got to talking about boats. Bill said he had NINE boats, all given to him, in his back yard, but his favorite was an aluminum one with a small motor that he could load and unload by himself, and easily maneuver around by himself. That really got me to thinking. I can understand the power and speed needs in tournaments, but you can buy aluminum boats that go just as fast as any glass ones and are much more economica. In then end, it all comes down to your wants, your wallet size, and what ever blows your kilt up.... I have a friend, a Jewish carpenter, whom you should get to know. Ketchup Posted March 1, 2015 Author Posted March 1, 2015 Hence why theres so many boat makers, making very well made aluminum boats these days, with storage, room, and HP to get ya there. Looking at these newer aluminum boats can cost ya $20,000 plus nowadays. TinBoats BassClub. An aluminum only bass club. If interested in info send me a PM.
Bill Anderson Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 Sure can, and I was recently looking at some metal flake, fancy glass ones that were over $40,000. My father owned some fancy mahogany Chris Craft runabouts and cabin cruisers in the 1950s and early 1960s, but they were useless for general fishng. My last yacht was a 15 foot aluminum canoe, paddled. I have a friend, a Jewish carpenter, whom you should get to know. If you do, your life will never be the same.
Ketchup Posted March 1, 2015 Author Posted March 1, 2015 haha, ive owned a few of those also Bill. Tho i had a powered boat also, just something about the canoe, and a quiet creek or river with paddle in had, and pole, that remains in my head. I have a G3 Pro 175 as of now, and enjoy the boat. Ive had several glass rigs, being one of those guys that like to keep a boat 2 or 3 years then get something different. Im pretty certain that i will keep an aluminum boat for several more years, if not the rest of my fishing years. I still fish with friends who have glass boats, but my little rig does me fine. Bill Anderson Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 Sitting here reading this, running fever from a bad case of bronchitis, with 4 inches of snow out there and 20 degrees, it sure seems like fishable weather, at least for me, is still a long way off..... Ketchup Posted March 1, 2015 Author Posted March 1, 2015 once we get past next week, i think we will be looking good. It will take a while to warm the waters, but most days with temps above 40 and i will be out there. The whites will be running up the Pomme and i will be there to catch my share for a fish fry. Im in Dallas Tx. at the moment, til Monday. I heard home got hit, but Dallas got a few inches yesterday. People down here have no idea how to react to this weather. Literally seen vehicles in ditches all across town. TinBoats BassClub. An aluminum only bass club. If interested in info send me a PM.
