I have several old WW's that I plan on putting back into the starting lineup.

Want to replace hooks and rings. Or do I need to replace rings?

Need suggestions for specific brand, type and size hooks & rings.

Thanks!

On a side note, I remember tying line directly to the the old Warts without using the O-ring on the bill.

Can't recall why we did this back then, or why the O-ring worked better?

I assume a tighter wobble without the ring?

Not sure about tying directly to the line tie but I always just used a speed clip/duo lock snap (that comes on the new warts). As far as hooks I like the KVD Elite short shank Mustads myself. I've used Owner ST-41's also which are AWESOME hooks but on the warts I like the KVD Elites. I go with a size 4 on the front hook and a size 6 on the back. They will never fowl one another and do a good job. Split rings I do not change out as the are plenty stout on either old models or new....unless yours have been sitting around so long they have rust but that would be the only reason for changing them.

I really like the Mustad Elite KVD triple grips for crank baits. Sharp and stout. Seems that I lose fewer fish on them also. I also like Owner size 2 or 3 split rings. They don't deform as easily as some will.

I use the #6 gamakatsu short shank magic eye (RBME) on the belly hook with a #1 O-ring,

This little O-ring prevents flip up, where the hook wants to grab the bill.

On the rear, Im using a #6 Spintech 2X with a #2 O-ring

When the bass nip at the bait or barely get the rear treble, this spintech will bury a 2nd hoook in them.

Also, when those big smallmouth jump the Spintech keeps them buttoned up because there's usually 2 of the 3 points buried in the lip.

i like owner short shank stingers in size 2 with size 2 or size 3 rings as well. Only down side is sometimes owner is expensive but always worth it.

The Wiggle Warts came with a snap attached not a ring for a while.

They started putting stock duo lock snaps on the wiggle warts in the mid 90's I believe.

Yep. I noticed the same thing. Once I switched to the KVD triple grips I had less fish spit the bait on me.

Thanks, guys!

I can't recall why I thought I was once told to try to tie line direct?

I distinctly remember taking the snap off and had good results with it.

Maybe it was after bending the eye and trying to get it to run under a dock?

Man, this getting old stuff is tough on my brain!

I wish I was a computer that had good backup files on an external hard drive?

I may try those Spintech's on a topwater.
