I always get down in the dumps this time of year...seems like this winter has been the longest ever. We had some nice warm spots in late Jan/early Feb, and December was mild enough. But February has really been kicking my butt. I've managed a couple days at the hot lake but that's it. I look at the long term forecast every day just hoping to see signs of life. Looks like this time next week will be pretty nice. I'm ready for a good long stretch of sunny sixties and maybe a warm rain or two to kick off the spring runs. Maybe someone can show me how to catch walleye other than by accident this year.

It's going to take longer than usual to warm up the water, unless we get some warm rain.

Expect 40 degree water until the end of the month.

It seems like, spring break is the unofficial kickoff to fish catching season, for me anyway.

In the meantime, I will be working on the boat & gear.

Once we start seeing 65-70 degree days, the river end will warm quickly. I would expect water temps in 50s in the upper river end by end of March.

The far upper White River has good flow from meltwater now, but it is very cold. The forecasted storm should up the flow even more, but still very cold water. Need a quick warmup or warm rain soon.

I am about 10 days out from coming up to spend a week chasing the stripes, hope we get some steady and warming weather. Last two years it has snowed on my mid march trips.
