GloryDaze Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 Hey folks, weird question but not sure where to start. My gutters on the house are starting to pull off the house. I can tell it's from the wood behind them being rotted out. It's a 2 story house so no way I'm climbing up there. Here's the question.... who do I call for repairs? There's nothing wrong with the gutters so I don't really need a gutter company. The wood will need to be replaced and painted, so would I call a painter? Or do I need to call a siding company, have them replace the dry rot and then call a painter and have them paint? I've called a few handy men and haven't had much luck with their help. Any advice is appreciated. Follow me on Twitter @DazeGlory
Feathers and Fins Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 Remove and Replace all Fascia, if the gutters were "spiked" then replace them as well with clips. My suggestion is to do it all also make certain the drip edge is style "d" and that the gutter back goes up under them. Yes its not what you want to hear but it is the best cure and will save you a lot higher repair cost later. jdmidwest Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 A siding guy would probably be the one to call to replace the wood and wrap it with new fascia metal. No need to paint and you would be maint free. I would call around an get a couple of quotes. Depending on the style of the gutter, aluminum or steel, they may be part of the culprit. Steel may have rusted out. Of course, with all of the snow and ice, the weight of it may have just pulled them away. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Ketchup Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Here is a job i did this fall that was as you stated yours is. The facia board had rotted behind the facia metal and gutters, causing the gutters to sag and pull away from the facia. This picture will give you an idea of whats expected. I removed all of the old facia board, fixed any rotted rafter tails, installed new facia boards, new facia metal, and new gutters/downspouts. TinBoats BassClub. An aluminum only bass club. If interested in info send me a PM.
