An excellent work, by Ned Kehde:

The information on the shakey head, and Fred Bland in particular, is very good. He does not get nearly enough credit for developing the general concept most of us use when fishing a shakey head. His use of bronze Eagle Claw hooks is of note.

Good stuff, thanks for posting.

Zoom 4" Lizard on a shroom head, may have to try that once the water gets a bit warmer.

Bite off the head, or even back past the front legs. The Tiny Brush Hog is another good option in May, same little heads.

Believe the Taco Head is the reason Eagle Claw and Mustad started selling the ninety degree long shank jig hooks. There was a story about his heads in Bassmaster back before the shakey head craze started.

Really great article! It's nice to learn the history of all the different jig heads around and man there's a ton of them. I find when i'm fishing plastics i'm almost always using a jig head of some sort. Rarely do i need to do a Texas rig on most of the smaller rivers and streams i'm fishing.

Has anyone tried the mushroom heads from BPS? I've been looking for a decent mushroom jig but i haven't had a lot of luck.

Send a PM to dtrs5kprs, he makes the best ones out there in my opinion, and very price competitive with the BPS heads.

A couple of things I do not like about the BPS heads - No weed guard, and I do not like the molded on bait keeper. I also like a #2 hook. (OK make that 3 things).

All that being said, I'm sure you could catch fish on them, but that is not the best option. Again, in my opinion.

Alright guy thanks a lot! It seems tough to find a good mushroom jig.
