Sac River Jim Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 Gizzard shad. Yes they can get pretty big. Stockton last weekend had hundreds floating from die off. Some of those were huge. ketchup is correct but dont mistake a kill with a die off. those 8 to 10 inch floaters reached the end of their life cycle. Thunderchicken 1

Sac River Jim Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 if you are really brave cut that nasty thing up, put it in a fruit jar and bury it for a couple of days. were latex gloves when you handle it and put a clothes pin on your nose!!! Chris White 1
LoweSTX175 Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 My stomach just rolled thinking about how bad that thing would smell after a couple of days in a jar. WettinLine - I have not directly preserved shad... I have done it with deep diver ducks (mergansers) then thawed them out and used them for bait later. I would think you could use a vacuum sealer.
