aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 Well im out of town so i let my buddy take my boat to the lake. After using it most the day he said on the way back to the ramp it made 3 beeps. He turned it off and trolled back. Anyone have any ideas on what those beeps mean. Last week i took it out and while running it mad one real long beep. And i believe it was a low voltage alarm. I took the battery and got it tested and it was bad. So it has a brand new battery. I really dont want to go to a dealer, they told me last week when i thought it i had a proablem it would be a week just to have them scan the computer
fishinwrench Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Check the oil level to see if it is low, or (more likely) higher than normal. If that checks good then you'll need to have the charging system checked/troubleshooted, and the same done with the cooling system while you're at it since a 2008 is past due for water pump service anyway....if it hasn't been done already. The beeps you are describing are indicative of an oil pressure issue BUT it will also sound intermittent tones when the voltage regulator is failing. The tone for overheat is a solid consistent horn.....not beeps.
aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted March 27, 2015 Author Posted March 27, 2015 Ok thanks, The water pump was changed this year, and the oil level is perfect, i just changed it last month and so far it hasnt been "making any oil" . Is there anyway for me to test the charging system without taking it in?
aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted March 27, 2015 Author Posted March 27, 2015 Yes i have one , I did notice my guage on the boat was only a little over 12 when running down the lake not sure how accurate that guage is
fishinwrench Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 OK, Operate you tilt/trim several times to pull battery voltage down to an even 12.0v. Connect the voltmeter to the battery and fire the engine up. Voltage should climb steadily up to 13v +/- at idle. Increase RPM to about 2000, voltage should climb a bit more but should stabilize at 13.8-14v and never go above 14.4v. Bring it back down to an idle and operate the tilt/trim with engine running....Voltage should dip down momentarily then quickly recover to 13v. Again, never exceeding 14.4
aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted March 27, 2015 Author Posted March 27, 2015 alright, after i get home from my work trip i will give it a shot and report back. What will it do if it is not working properly?
fishinwrench Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Voltage will either fail to recover from the discharge, or will recover UNREGULATED (which will eventually boil your battery dry and start heating up the stator and charging circuit until something melts in two). So if you see 14.5....shut her down.
aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted April 2, 2015 Author Posted April 2, 2015 well i got home and ran all the test and everything checked out fine. Took it to the lake and as soon as i got up on plane it beeped 6 times and sputtered and took me down to an idle. Did a little research and someone mentioned a clogged thermostat. So i figued that was simple to at least check real quick... Well it was clogged up with so much crap. Im just gonna throw a new one in it too. Is there any good way to clean out all the debris in the motor? i literally could stick my finger in there and pull out all kinds of stuff
