Flysmallie Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 I really wanted to like fluorocarbon but never really found one I liked. I use mono on every rod I own. Stren super knot strength and Berkley trilene xl both in 10 lb. on bait casters and 6 lb on spinning rods. I feel like I get longer life out of mono and it's cheap enough I can strip it off and replace it as often as I like without worrying about cost. Right there with you junk. I have no problems with mono. And when I did use flouro I didn't see any change in catch rate. And yes you can fish a topwater with flouro but why fight it when mono works so well. See absolutely no benefit for using flouro on topwater.
zarraspook Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 most my rods are micro guide and ive had trouble with braid on them. i guess im not using small enough diameter braid. i bought some 20lb powee pro the other day im gonna spool up on a spinning rod using a flouro leader for small to med crankbaits. Like that Power Pro... Don't get the "wind knots" like with the SUPER limp braids.... Sac River Jim 1 "Look up OPTIMIST in the dictionary - there is a picture of a fishing boat being launched"
Sac River Jim Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 Like that Power Pro... Don't get the "wind knots" like with the SUPER limp braids.... zarra i was just using to heavy power pro on those micro guide rods for my arigs. I think the 20lb power pro will be just fine. I bit the bullet in February when i was having trouble with my line guides freezing up and let Rick LaPoint fix me up with a 7'6'' heavy action rod for my Arig. Its got the bigger line guides on it and its very sensitive but its stout!!!!!!
Kramr Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 Have Kanzen 20 lb braid with a 6 lb fluoro leader on a couple of my spinning reels. I've used it for a bunch of different things. With that setup I can use it for trolling, the Kanzen is the same diameter as 6 lb mono so it will let my crankbaits dive a little deeper. Used this same setup but with 8 lb fluoro for topwater and the dog walked just fine. Also used it for casting and jigging spoons. Use an Albright or double Albright to attach the leader. Also the braid casts farther which is important if your fishing in clear waters such as Stockton, Norfork, or Bull Shoals. Sac River Jim 1
wuteversbitin424 Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 All of the sugestions are good ones and there is a wide range in opinions about lines but the one and only consistant thing is that the guys who are sugesting lines and telling what they use are one very important thing...confident in what they throw!...whatver your choice(and its obvious that many different choices work) be sure of what your doing or its worthless. Its the same with lure choice...millions of fish are caught on millions of lures and 90% of the fish and lures are caught and thrown by fishermen -women that have confidence in their desicion. This is probably 50% of the equation to catching fish imo. Good luck and good fishing! Daryk Campbell Sr 1
