dtrs5kprs Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Ham, I don't hate mono. I disliked using a leader and I disliked the spinning rod approach. I found it had a tendency to jump off the reel, even when correctly spooled on. All of these factors contributed to my building the casting rod for the Ned. dtrs5kprs, I put my Revo MGX on the rod and with 6 pound line I can routinely throw 75 feet with the 1/16th ounce head. I should get my boat back this week and pln to fish this coming weekend. I am looking forward to it. Wow. Are you having any trouble with the line getting between the spool and the reel frame?
Alex Heitman Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 If you tie a Alberto knot you shouldn't have any problems. It looks really hard to tie at first but after a few times you get the hang of it. I have ever had a problem with break offs. You don't even hardly have to set the hook either since there is no strech.
Ham Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 The point of the thread was the little do nothing rig has now bitten me. And that I wanted to thank Dave for his sample pack and that......I need more. A lot more. :-) I will be fishing this little rig this summer and hope to get my kids on it and any of my relatives that want to go fishing. It's a numbers bait and I like numbers :-) I don't understand how you feel bitten. I took no offense and I certainly didn't mean to cause any. I have Thanked Dave many times and so appreciate his efforts to share information. He had to nudge me more than once to use the Ned even after I had used and caught fish on it. Long story that's not important. I'd be shocked if you are more of a numbers guy than me, but any things possible I suppose. So I totally get it. I have been trying to share information on using Nano for the same reasons. I believe it has helped me catch a lot more fish and have more fun on the water. Is it more complicated than mono? Yes. Lots of good things take a little more effort. Cars are more complicated than horses. I've decided to stick with cars despite the occasional aggravation. I still use mono on my baitcasters for Topwater and crankbaits. I mainly use Fluro for jigs and such. I really didn't take note of who was having problems with the Nano, I'm just trying to figure out why. Now, the Ned on a bait caster thing is just tin foil hat crazy. Yes, you can fish it that way and you can catch fish, but I don't see that as being the best tool for the job by any means. I don't use a 3 lb maul when I can use a 16 oz hammer to drive the nail. Again, just my opinion. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish

rps Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Wow. Are you having any trouble with the line getting between the spool and the reel frame? While that is theoretically possible, I have only had it happen twice despite years of fishing light line (4 to 6 pound) on trout casters. Those trout casters are what made me sure I could build a Ned rig casting rod.

Again, just my opinion. My cowboy buddy might disagree on the horses. I'm slightly interested in the baitcast thing because my carpal tunnel and elbow are bad enough to make me lay the little guy down a few times a day in favor of a jig or shakey head on a casting rod. Have to do the same thing with grubs at times. Spinning gear has to be an easier answer though.

I've since put some bike handlebar wrap on it to make it a larger diameter. Would something like that maybe help your issues?
