I've been concentrating in the KC to Coombs Ferry area because frankly, I've had no reason to try anywhere else. :)

Monday, I easily had the best day on The Rock that I've ever had. I didn't get on the lake until 11:30am and only then after forfeiting my birthright to my boss so that he would allow me to work just half the day (the fish seem to be quite a bit more willing in the afternoons anyway). I've had some of my best fishing lately after derby check-in time.

Caught 28 fish between 13 - 17 1/2" and every last one of those rascals came on a 1/8oz Little Guy head from Dave (aka dtrs5kprs) adorned with half a PBJ zero. It was a real smorgasbord with 7 SM, 8 LM, and 13 Spots. 14 were keeper-sized. The vast majority came from primary and secondary points with me basically casting to the first break off the bank. If there was some type of wood (cedar, laydown) on that first break, it was almost a guarantee. Wind was fairly heavy out of the south but since I was by myself, I just drifted along casting downwind so that I could maintain some slack in the line. Water temps were 52.5 to 54. It seems like the temps have been in the low to mid 50s for weeks now. I get the impression that the finned critters are starting to feel amorous and ready to get on with it whether the water temp cooperates or not.

A 17 1/2" LM and 16" SM. Good times on a ML rod with 8lb test!

A fitting end to a great day on the water - a toast to all those providing such great info on this forum.

Very nice report. Taking the day off Friday. Can't wait to get out there with a good friend and spend some quality time.

I plan to be out Friday as well with my youngest son who is on his way down from Minnesocold as we speak. If we cross paths, do stop for a chat!

We're going to launch at Shell Knob bridge and probably fish downstream as far as Big Creek, maybe even Baxter.

Left-seater for this mission will be forum member denjac. He's a handful but was the best I could do on short notice. :XD: Hope to see you out there Macsimus. What engine do you have on that fine-looking Cat?

Donna and I are planning to fish the USABassin derby Saturday out of Big M. Need to reclaim whatever pride we have left after a dismal showing in the opener 3 weeks ago.

James, it's a Merc ProXS. Best of luck to you and Donna on Saturday. I'm pretty sure I won't be venturing that far but it does pain me that there is so much lake with so little time...

I hope you're as happy with your Pro XS as I am with mine. That thing is just crazy easy on fuel. Oil is expensive if you burn the brown DFI oil like I do, but it doesn't drink a lot of that either.

Good work. Your report is almost identical to some from last spring, down to the area, temps, and the late afternoon bite. Once it warmed just a touch from there it was absolutely ridiculous. Hope you and your son get all over them.

I'm totally happy with it as long as I stay out of the BBC Mercury 3 Liter forum. Spend any time in there and I'm afraid to use it.
