moguy1973 Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 Headed to Kentucky lake in the morning for the weekend. Staying just below Jonathan Creek. Reading the fishing reports they are really on them as they start to move up into the shallows. Hopefully we get into some of them. moguy1973 Posted April 18, 2015 Author Posted April 18, 2015 First time here for me. Reminds me a lot of a really wide LOZ. Had some trouble figuring out the fish as they are either right in the middle of spawn or cruising looking to set up spawn. They had a lot of rain Wednesday and that made the spawning flats super stained to muddy. Got a hold of a few. Biggest surprise is their channel cats are hungry. Caught this one and another smaller one on a Demon colored DT6 and another on a white chatter bait. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
Flatbottom Boy Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 We will be down on Thursday the 23rd. Save a couple for us! We try to do this every year and seem to hit the crappie/bass/redear just about right with at least one of them wanting to play. Good luck to you guys...have a blast!
moguy1973 Posted April 19, 2015 Author Posted April 19, 2015 It was tough and the bass weren't really wanting to play. The water temps were between 68 in the morning and 72 in the afternoon. So they are probably in the middle of doing the deed or are already done. The lake came up to summer pool this past week but the fish hadn't made it up to the buck brush and yellow flowers yet. We couldn't find them on points and bluff walls either. Biggest bass we caught was about 2 1/2lbs. Did really well on catfish on crank baits on Saturday though. Go figure. My buddy caught 5 cats with on being 5lbs and one being 4lbs and I ended up with an 8lb blue cat. All on shad colored shallow cranks. It was strange. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
Flatbottom Boy Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 I bet that blue pulled hard though! I think its pretty typical for them to get aggresive this time of year. I caught my first cat on a fly rod this time of year here in MO a few years back.
