Members HardHead Posted May 1, 2015 Members Posted May 1, 2015 Bought a 2004 triton in oct. I have a mark 5x dsi on the front. My dash unit is shot and needs to be replaced. I owned a 76 ranger as my first boat and used a $100 portable fishfinder on the side, so I don't have a lot of experience with electronics. My current dash unit is a lowrance lms-480 with gps. I def want gps on the new unit. I'm looking for a something I can mount on the side. I'd like to stay $750 or less. Any suggestions on specific fishfinders or suggestions on where to find the best deals would be greatly appreciated.

Internal GPS, down image, etc. Happy with it so far. That was up front, but it would mount just fine at the console. Still coming to agreements with it on sensitivity settings, etc. We'll get there. Was $699 base at BPS.
5bites Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 I would suggest looking into a humminbird 859 or 899 depending on which features you really want. Universalmania.com usually has the best deals. Compare those two and see what you think. olbasser 1

Any chance you are selling the x15? A friend might be in the market for a good used graph.
5bites Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 I also wanted to add while you are looking look into the lakemaster map cards for the lakes you like to fish.

GNSfishing Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 I'd sure take a look at the Lawrence elite 7 chirp unit. A good full featured unit with chirp technology.
Longball22 Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 I second the Elite 7 as a good unit in your price range. I have the non-CHIRP on the bow of my boat (CHIRP was not out when I purchased), and I am happy with it. You could probably find the non-CHIRP cheaper, but you'll lose some performance in that trade-off.

I have a 2006 Lowrance LMS 334c, transducer and power cord. I don't have a clue what it's worth. Send me a PM if he is interested. Born to Fish. Forced to Work.
Longball22 Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 Another option to consider is putting an HDS-5 Gen 2 in your console. Replaced a lowrance x96 that was in console of my '06 nitro, and was able to buy an adapter for the transducer and use the stock one. The HDS-5 was slightly bigger, but fits nicely in the console and I didn't have to mount a new 'ducer. I picked mine up at the BPS Catalog outlet for $325, which was as cheap as I had seen it at the time.
