Heard on the news the Corps may shut down some of it's campgrounds next week? They didn't give any specifics, as to which ones or how many.

If they are for Beaver it would be Rocky Branch, LBS and Dam Site, those are the only three I could think of that would take on water. But even at that I don't see them shutting down the entire facility they didn't in any of the flood years past, just simply had to shut down certain camp sites in them due to flooding,

I have been around to these places during flood stage. They only close campsites and day use areas that are actually flooded or have access blocked by the high water. The higher sites remain open.

The Flood gates should open today, the gates are at 1130 but I have seen it at 1132 before they opened the gates. With the creeks and rivers running so much it always amazes me they cannot generate more to keep it from going over the flood gates but the corps does not control the power grid so the only way they have of controlling the water is to open the gates and wash out their own campsites and structures below the dam. It will not be a pretty site for the bridge going into Holiday Island either.

I really hope they wait until tomorrow for the visitors to leave the tailwaters, most of the people that play down there have no idea how dangerous those waters get when they open the gates.

They have been running all generators for seven straight hours now. The Southwest Power Administration controls that. Maybe they are taking advantage of all the nearly free power they can sell at this time. By generating around the clock, no more rain, and the inflow dropping rapidly, they might barely avoid 1130. Just maybe.

Looks like its coming up an inch per hour right now. There running the generators at maximum capacity. With forecast of heavy rain this evening won't be long till they open up.

I went to the dam in 08 and it was an impressive sight. Just to feel all that power of the water. I found out its hard to predict exactly when the gates will be open. One time I was 10 minutes late.

Making Beaver Lake safe for all the little fish...one striper at a time.
