Terrierman Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 Did I ever tell you guys about the time I motorboated over Highway 71 between Nevada and Rich Hill? That was some real water, trees full of spiders and all kind of weird things going on.
JohnF52 Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 How far has the mudline progressed in past floods? Point 5?
Stump bumper Posted May 27, 2015 Author Posted May 27, 2015 How far has the mudline progressed in past floods? Point 5? 2011 when we got 13 inches of rain in 2 days I saw dirty water going over the dam and mud around Rocky Branch. I also remember all the boards on the Bridge between Beaver town and Holiday Island were gone when they closed the gates. That dirty water lasted for most of the summer and I remember taking the seats down on my bass boat to get under the route 12 bridge for months.
JohnF52 Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 If it mostly stops raining, the floodwaters will get dumped quickly. Table Rock and Bull Shoals were both full in 2011, but have plenty of room now. I did not go on the big end in 2011 until fall, and it was cleared up nicely by then.
Stump bumper Posted May 27, 2015 Author Posted May 27, 2015 Just looked at the generation schedule and looks like the flow is slowing down and tail waters are dropping. Does anyone know if they closed the gates, if so the water will start rising again.
JohnF52 Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 The generators are all running, but judging from the tail water elevation, the flood gates are likely closed now. Headwater stream levels have fallen considerably, so the lake will continue to fall with generation only, provided no significant rain falls in the upper watershed.
Stump bumper Posted May 29, 2015 Author Posted May 29, 2015 The tail waters are back down to 916 from 930 so it looks like the generation is getting back to normal and we have our high water lake for the summer. I like high water better than low water, so hopefully it settles soon and we have a great summer. All those little bass will enjoy the flooded cover.
JohnF52 Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 More flooding in the headwaters and all over the lake. I wonder, with all the soaking rains, if the dam is in any danger?
Blll Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 3 days without rain and today the water level went UP!! Bummer.
Stump bumper Posted June 15, 2015 Author Posted June 15, 2015 Lake seems to be holding steady with little generation but with thunderstorms predicted all week I am betting on one of those being a 2in gully washer and the gates being opened by Friday. I don't think the streams will handle a 2in rain very well and it all will make it into the lake.
