Members crkoester Posted May 10, 2015 Members Posted May 10, 2015 Thinking about making my first ever trip up there to Crane Wed or Thurs. Not sure how much of this rain they got up there. Anyone know what the creek looks like right now? Will it likely be blown out by Wednesday or Thursday? Chris
trythisonemv Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 If we don't get much more rain today or Tomorrow it should be great for fishing terrestrial flies. I live 20minutes from there and have several employees that live in crane who said it's not bad. I'm planning maybe Friday morning heading down. Met a stream team member today from there who said it was in good shape and that scuds in the 18 range were the most prevalent aquatic inverts in there now.
Members crkoester Posted May 10, 2015 Author Members Posted May 10, 2015 Any significant hatches popping this time of year? Other than terrestrials and scuds, what are the best local patterns? Never been up there... can't wait to work out my new little St Croix 7.5 foot 3 weight. I'm almost 2 hours away, I'd hate to make the drive and find the creek has turned into a river. Chris
trythisonemv Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 Caddis and bow are hatching pretty good. Lots of midges in the 20 size range
trythisonemv Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 Mohair leech was very productive last week after first rains
Members crkoester Posted May 10, 2015 Author Members Posted May 10, 2015 What do the caddis look like up there? Tan size 18 or so, like the small ones down at Roaring River? Chris
trythisonemv Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 Yeah same. They are predicting more rain Wednesday through Friday now though. It may be a river after all
Members crkoester Posted May 13, 2015 Author Members Posted May 13, 2015 Any newer update on Crane level? Still thinking about sneaking up there Thursday. The way the creeks are rolling down here I don't feel too hopeful though. Chris
jtram Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 Upper, Upper Indian is slightly up and clear, upper shoal is barely stained, im guessing capps is good to go, a lot of sw mo got rain w/o flooding so dont count crane out unless you hear its blown out.....
