Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted May 12, 2015 Root Admin Posted May 12, 2015 http://extra.mdc.mo.gov/documents/area_brochures/9725map.pdf Was driving by the other day and had some extra time so I decided to drive off highway 60 down to Capps Creek to see what was down there. I hadn't really looked at any maps or info on the area so I had no idea what to look for or where to go if I wanted to wet a line. I drove as far as the bridge crossing the creek. The water was covered by trees and brush - not inviting. But I knew there had to be more angler friendly areas to go, but I didn't have that much time to explore. So for the novice you wants to explore Capps Creek, what should we look for? Thread pinned.
ollie Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 My winter stomping grounds! There are 3 conservation lots to park in and one technically is not, but you can still use it. You can also park at the mill but that will cost you $5.00. If you are there to sightsee around the mill then it is worth it, but if you just want to fish then park across from there by the bridge and start walking. Any one of those three lots will put you on fish when you start walking down to the creek. Of course I have my favorite places to fish so I'm not going there. Once you get to any of the parking lots go either up or downstream and hit any of the deeper pools. They won't be holding in the skinny water down there. Be warned however, it is a tough creek to fish most of the time and sometimes I feel lucky if I walk out of there catching only one trout. And the wind. Don't get me started on that! If it is barely blowing when you leave the house then count on it gusting down there! lol "you can always beat the keeper, but you can never beat the post" There are only three things in life that are certain : death, taxes, and the wind blowing at Capps Creek!
jtram Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 Go up from the lower bridge where the trees cover the water, several decent places to fish for about 3/4 of a mile. Down stream always has been tough for me, but there are fish there..... tight quarters. The park at Jolly is good at times, some VERY good browns in there and down from the park where the creek runs through the field sometimes holds a few fish. Other places fish good but can be hard to get your line out.
trythisonemv Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 Walleye road access always a good area up or downstream. Browns down towards shoal creek at times
