Fish24/7 Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 WT 78 676.90 and rising It's not the best, but they can be caught if you drag some cranks that dive 16-20' over 100+ fow while following major creek channels. Half way up some of the major creek arms on the MO side has been a good place to start, then work your way back out towards the mouth..Fish have been scattered so once you find a few w/ the finder make multiple passes back and forth. Best time has been mid day, 11-2. Lots of 17" fish with the occasional 5lb class. A few small keepers here and there.Black back w/ silver sides has been a very good color.. Good luck
Ham Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 Thanks for the intell. I'm sure that trolling is the best way to catch them. I suspect that a fair number of the walleye have developed quite a taste for crawfish. I seem to catch a few every time I drag tube or Hula grub around. Seems like a rigs catch their fair share of them too. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
Fish24/7 Posted June 7, 2015 Author Posted June 7, 2015 i'm one of those guys who can't seem to catch a walleye on an umbrella rig. Not even 1 ! As much as I throw one for whites in March and April it's never happened:( Â I'm anxiously waiting for the bluegill to start spawning . The walleye bite get's a little easier for me then when they start hanging around the flats eating perch.
Ham Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 I don't throw the a rig a lot. I kind of hate it, but you can throw it in high wind and coldish water so its useful at times. I've had my freaking arms about yanked off by a 26 inch walleye and caught multiple of keepers on it. I always throw my a rigs on braid. Allll my walleye on the a rig have hit it real hard. Fish24/7 Posted June 8, 2015 Author Posted June 8, 2015 This thread is going against everything ive ever known about walleye. Thanks for totally confusing me lol. Suspended walleye. Hard aggressive bites. Right now we have just been seeing smaller schools. i've found big schools of walleye suspended ,especially in late August and Sept. when they first start following the shad to the creeks. they usually hang in the same spots for longer periods. Near a major channel, next to a deep hump, around standing timber,or adjacent to a point. They are typically 40' + deep by then. I still long line troll them and/or use jigging spoons if they are relating to the bottom. The only time I drag a harness is in June and July during the bluegill spawn when they can be found in the 25-35'zone on big flats. there may be other ways to catch them better, or catch them bigger, but I try to keep it as simple as possible, and just stick to what i already know works for me
rps Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 This thread is going against everything ive ever known about walleye. Thanks for totally confusing me lol. Suspended walleye. Hard aggressive bites. Go back and re read the trolling article I wrote. You will notice I refer to trolling suspended walleye in tree tops. Channel edges. They usually wait until later in the summer, but fish can't read scripts.
