Members stephen seward Posted June 11, 2015 Members Posted June 11, 2015 I would like to start running a trolling motor on my canoe for fishing larger bodies of water. I assume this means I need to get it titled and registered. Since I bought it used, I don't have any proof of ownership or purchase. Is there anything I can do to get this done? Thanks in advance.

Members stephen seward Posted June 12, 2015 Author Members Posted June 12, 2015 Thanks...I'm just wondering how I'm going to come up with a bill of sale for something that was bought person to person a few years ago...?
fishinwrench Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 It's a stupid rule. I'd ignore it, but that's just me because the hefers at the DMV just love to make your life complicated. Truthfully I find trolling motors on canoes a PIA and not that beneficial but some folks like it, so...
Gavin Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 Never have bothered to register mine. Ran a trolling motor on it a few times. Been years. Need a nice old town motor mount? Darn near new.
ollie Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 How much Gavin? I might be interested since I just bought the Disco 119. I have entertained the thought now for a few weeks. I can't see myself using it very often, but I could see the use of it. fishinwrench Posted June 13, 2015 Posted June 13, 2015 I guess the biggest issue I have with motors on canoes is the balance headache. When you step out of the canoe it falls on its side....unless you use a very VERY lightweight (and WEAK) trolling motor. I toyed with creating a pivoting center mount for forward thrust, and then using a paddle to rudder-steer it. But I just don't want a motor on a canoe. That's what Jon boats are for.
ollie Posted June 13, 2015 Posted June 13, 2015 That's a valid point there Wrench. I hadn't thought of that, but does it really make that much difference? I mean if you have your boat trimmed or balanced just right it wouldn't matter right? fishinwrench Posted June 13, 2015 Posted June 13, 2015 Well.....just hang 15lbs. off the side of your canoe and then see how much weight it takes in the bottom center to set it back straight. It is significant. It takes more than just a battery.
Gavin Posted June 13, 2015 Posted June 13, 2015 Ollie it's the old town standard mount with a 4 hp capacity. Aluminum rail with two wood blocks. New retail is $ 139.99 but the sticker on the original box says I paid $59 for it. Great condition how bout $50 plus shipping? Pm your digits if interested, will text you pics.
