MOsmallies Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 In my honest opinion I think it shines much more in clear water, like Table Rock and Bull Shoals, than a lake that usually has some color to it such as LOZ. I know it catches fish on LOZ but it will not win any tournaments on LOZ. That's just my opinion. I'm sure if I fished Table Rock almost exclusively I'd have more of an affinity for the thing. In terms of pure numbers, it probably is the best option day in and day out for Table Rock. Mitch f 1
5bites Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 For suspended fish I know it would work but if you are looking at them on the graph I'd personally want something that fell faster. Around bridges and docks it should be great.
Chief Grey Bear Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 Every time I read about the butthurt whiners griping about the Ned rig I have to wonder did they get their feelings hurt when the Eakins jig came out? It wasn't a new thing either but there it is with someone name on it and they are actually making money on it to boot. That right there is a difference. A fishing report on a small forum based out of swmo is hardly going to generate a lot of sales other than some locals. Also a word of advice. I know I'm not 105 years old so I can't possibly know what I'm talking about but if you don't like having things shoved down your throat, shut your mouth. If you don't like things shoved in your face then just keep your face the heck out of places where that could happen. Yeah I don't understand all the discontent! With a resounding endorsement like that, who could resist! Why would you resist! And what fools! Of course a little unknown fishing forum from the hills of back assward Missouri ain't going to generate any traffic! Hey, just between me and you, what's this Eakins jig? Never heard of it. Members NickIL Posted June 15, 2015 Members Posted June 15, 2015 I have been fishing the Ned Rig on LOZ from pre-spawn through early June and find it to be a very effective shallow water bait. I fish a standup jig and 5" stick bait a lot as well and catch about the same ratio of keepers to shorts, although I do catch a few more drum on the Ned Rig. I don't think you catch fewer big fish, just more shorts. I anticipate using the Ned Rig less as fish move deeper on points and around bluff ends. I would like to hear from those who fish LOZ through the summer months with the Ned. Is there an effective summer-time pattern with the Ned on LOZ?

A couple questions. 1.What on earth are you trying to say? I'm sure it's something though I doubt very constructive. Engrish pree 2. Do you seriously not know what an Eakins jig is or more typical rambling?

In terms of pure numbers, it probably is the best option day in and day out for Table Rock. Actually, compared to the water we throw it in here in KS, LOZ is positively clear. Most of our lakes around KC, Topeka, Lawrence, St Joe have maybe 3' visibility at best, and color with that. It does just fine even in muddy water. As to tmts you may be right, especially on a lake so driven by brushpiles. Then again, we catch a ton of good ones out of brushpiles on TR. Might just be a question of where folks are throwing it, and how they are fishing it. LOZ folks seem to be chained to the power fishing mentality, and it does fish a bit like a big farm pond at times, so that can work out. My view of derbies is this...you can try to jackpot them and swing for the fence if you think you can catch big fish. Otherwise, it comes down to playing the long game, trying to make the year end "classics" to have a chance at the big prizes. That starts with weighing fish at every tmt, a zero is a killer. It is helped along by weighing limits at each event, and that is something the little guy can surely make happen. MOsmallies 1

Did you happen to catch the irony in the first and second paragraph of the quote? 4. If not, it explains it all to the rest of us. Not LOZ specific, but a bunch of us at TR and Bull thought it would be a spring and fall only deal, and limited it to shallow water at first. Once we put that out of our heads it really expanded the utility of the bait. It absolutely works on bluffs, ledge rock, bluff ends, bluff coves, and the deep sides of points. Have used it out to about 40' with good results. Just takes some patience to get it to them.

I up'ed the head to a 1/4 oz and it seemed like i was gonna fall asleep waiting for the slack. We did pull a few fish out of 35' of water with it. That was with a full Zero on it. TinBoats BassClub. It falls quicker/better with the cut stick. 35' is going to be the magic number until about October.
