Are you guys using spinning gear when fishing the Ned that deep? FC line, or light braid & FC leader?

Spinning is all I throw it on. Played with a casting rod for about 10 casts this spring after RPS from the TR forum built one. Wasn't for me, but works for some. In water deeper than 20' that is usually a 7'6" rod for me, with the 1/8oz head. I normally stop fishing it at 40', and either look for other fish, or get vertical on them.

Nearly 100% of the time I have it tied to straight 6# Invizx, sometimes Red Label. The last two weeks I played with some more braids and FC leaders. Only one I can tolerate is Kanzen in 8#, with a 6# Invizx leader. Handles as well or better than any other braid I have tried. Did not really see the touted advantages of braid, and yes, it does twist. Hooksets were pretty much instant, especially at the end of long casts, so I can see some use for it there. Bad news is I lost several good fish on it, basically just had hooks pull out even with soft rods.

Braid will make you crazy in wind, just blows all over, and makes it hard to get the little guy down. 6# FC is much easier to deal with all around.

Most docks in my area have 2 cables per side. And I get away with 10# fc. If a dock has 6 cables I would just skip that dock.

I wish everyone would :)

Don't worry about those cables man. Use real quality flourocarbon like Sunline shooter, seaguar tatsu, or also to ray super hard. They have reasonable diameters for there size and hold up to cables very well. Get him to bite first and then worry about the rest.

For sure. Even if the line feels good you never know how well the knot survived the battle.

Have you considered or tried what Bo does sometimes on different baits and use a splitshot above it to help get it down better? You're gonna lose some feel and casting would be awkward. If a guy was bent on using it way on down it might work though. Or not.
