mjk86 Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 Batteries imo need to be replaced early and often no matter what. dead batteries on the water is worse than a dead outboard. I buy the cheapos but replace them every other year.

Low or inconsistent voltage causes brushes in electric motors to glaze over and creates heat all through the circuit that causes corrosion and a degree of breakdown of the entire circuits integrity. Trolling motors, outboard starters and trim motors, ect. are all built and designed to operate with a FULLY CHARGED 12 or 24v source. Operation by a source less than that is like feeding your chickens chicken s#it, they won't stay healthy very long that way.
