Batteries imo need to be replaced early and often no matter what. dead batteries on the water is worse than a dead outboard. I buy the cheapos but replace them every other year.

Best advise yet IMO

Everyone treats their battery's differently, and if you wait until you KNOW the battery is bad then you have subjected your more expensive components to harm.

Low or inconsistent voltage causes brushes in electric motors to glaze over and creates heat all through the circuit that causes corrosion and a degree of breakdown of the entire circuits integrity.

Trolling motors, outboard starters and trim motors, ect. are all built and designed to operate with a FULLY CHARGED 12 or 24v source. Operation by a source less than that is like feeding your chickens chicken s#it, they won't stay healthy very long that way.

Been stuck out on stockton once with dead batteries and a storm blowin in. Do that once and new batteries forever!
