Ledge fishing for bass off shore

Just been thinking about this style and attempting to be successful at it. Seems like every ledge I feel looks good doesn't show any fish and when they do I can't get them to bite. Just though I'd try to get a discussion started around this for beaver lake tips/ advice. Anyone else having success and how deep are the ledges you are targeting?

I'm glad you posted this question, I too have been curious about it. You see the FLW guys talk over and over about it. I hope someone shares some knowledge on the topic and how it pertains to Beaver.

I think those bass hide under an over hang or real tight to the walls. Probably hard to see on sonar. I have heard stories from scuba divers that there are some monsters down there. They get big for a reason ?

I brought up Ledges for crappie earlier this year and the same applies for bass. When I do bass fish I try to fish them the same way I do ledges. I will look in a bit to see if I cant find the post on crappie as its the same for bass.

Basically throw out light weight baits and when you hit the ledge you want them to fall naturally and slow picture a crayfish or small baitfish just leisurely swimming along. The bass or crappie etc will be on the drop off and when the prey comes along all nice and happy BOOM SUPRISE ambush predation at its finest.

FF is Correct! I have not fished the ledges since I have been back in NWA. But we used to throw plastics (crawfish or finesse worms) onto the ledge then let is sit for a few minutes(literally) then slowly walk it off the ledge. 90% of the hits came as it was falling off the ledge. It is a great night time activity int he summers. At least it has been in the past.

Im a big ledge lover lol. When the lake was down I marked tons of them. Some have produced others have not. One thing I have noticed in the productive ledges is there is NO other cover near them.

Because that ledge "is" the closest cover in that area.

Interesting, what depths would you say these lashes are? I've caught plenty of bass on a drop shot in 40' before but in select places. I'm guessing 20-30' average depth before the ledge drops off into deeper waters.

This idea really centered around the idea of how do most develop the current days pattern. For me it's pretty simple and caveman like.

1. I go beat the banks in creeks and hit the secondary points. This is where I have had the most luck targeting brush piles etc.

2. If 1 is a no go I move out to main lake points and docks as well as inside and outside channel swings.

3. Bluffs

Wondering if anyone else will share their general thoughts when approaching a bass pattern for the day since it changes so much on beaver.

All my ledges right now are 12 to 18ft deep. For me its a early spring, fall and winter bite they suck in summer. Though I am sure there is deeper ledges the lake needs t get down lower than it did this year. I am looking for very specific types of ledges. Those are not to be revealed I do have to have a few secrets.
