M_Taylor Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 So when you all speak of ledges, are you talking flat rocks that then drop off abruptly? I was picturing more of steep transition but not vertical. It seems that when I've watched videos on ledge fishing it's usually only 4-5ft steep transitions. Am I misunderstanding?
J-Doc Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 Could be both. A sharp drop off close to a good source. The food source could be a school of bait roaming open water. Need marine repair? M_Taylor Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 I guess when I see those guys throwing 6xd cranks and such I figured they aren't pulling them off into open water, but keeping them right on the bottom.
Guest Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 Beaver doesn't setup well for ledge fishing. Main river channel swings where large areas of flat pea gravel turn into vertical underwater bluff walls make the best ledges.
fisherofmen11 Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 Im a big ledge lover lol. When the lake was down I marked tons of them. Some have produced others have not. One thing I have noticed in the productive ledges is there is NO other cover near them. Would you or someone be willing to reveal a ledge on a beaver map? Maybe one of the non producing ones?

Kind of think ledges are better on shallower lakes with more flow, generally. Champ188 1
Members uofastudent Posted June 24, 2015 Members Posted June 24, 2015 Ledge fishing will always be best on River generation lakes where current is a lot more significant than beaver. Think pickwick and Kentucky lake. Bass will sit down current of these ledges because they create a current break and they wait for schools of shad to go over them and then they come up and ambush. Not saying ledges aren't good in lakes. But they can be amazing out on pickwick with big schools of bass. Worth noting, for current ledge fishing, you want ledges that are perpendicular to the current direction. dtrs5kprs 1
