I have some friends coming down in late September for a canoe camping trip with a focus on hooking up with some smallmouth. This will be the first time any of them have been in the Ozarks.

I have floated a handful of the Ozark streams since moving to STL in 2013. Last year, we did a couple days on the eleven point which was an absolute treat. With that said, I am seeking input on a good scenic stretch of river for 2 days and 2 nights of great sights and good smallie populations. Open to any suggestions and appreciate any input.

Middle Current, Lower Jacks, Big Piney, middle Meramec, the list goes on and on, but depending on time of fall, focus on the lower ends of tributaries to bigger streams and float down to the bigger river.

I did an over night float on the lower Jacks, from Eminence, onto the middle Current, to Powder Mill, (staying at Two Rivers overnight) a couple years ago that time of year and it was one of my most productive smallmouth floats I've ever had. And it's gorgeous to float with the leaves changing.

This float is on my list!

Depends on when in the fall. Leaves in the water can be a PIA...bring some relatively weedless baits. Flukes, Jigs with weedguards, buzzbaits, spinners etc.

Late September the leaves won't be bad at all. All suggestions above are good ones. If you've already done the 11 Point, though, to keep it on that high expectation level for scenery, I would narrow it down to which section of the middle Current I would be doing.

We are going to do the Jacks Fork into the current, as I have only done a small bit of upper Current river.

Smallie Seeker - The Piney trip you described was the first Ozark trip I did after moving here from Indiana. After that, my friends have had a hard time getting me to drive back home to do a trip!

What a great forum, thanks for the recommendations all.
