upstream Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 Don't really care who runs the hatchery just like to see a decent size of fish caught like it used to be . laker67 1
brother dave Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 I quit going, hopefully there's some positive changes. Both the wife and I really use to enjoy going. HOWDY LAKER67! laker67 1 I shop at the outdoor grocery store
brittsnbirds Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Last year had the pleasure of conversing with an older gentleman that lived down there. He overheard someone fishing and complaining about the size of fish. He turns to me and says (after noticing their 3 fish on stringer) doesn't look like they are too unhappy. We started talking about the fish issue. I kept my big mouth shut and listened. He told me that they have changed the strain of trout to a shorter, faster growing thicker unit. He said people complain about the size based on the length but if they noticed that they were little footballs they might change their attitudes. I tend to agree. They did (last year) seem a little stocky-er. Just a thought.

First it was a voluntary 4 fish limit in order for the hatchery to catch up with demand. Then it was mandatory 4 fish limit in order for the hatchery to catch up with demand. Then all of a sudden we need a new and bigger hatchery to catch up to demand. Now we have a new and bigger hatchery and they want to stock shorter fish until the hatchery can catch up to demand. I don't buy it. brittsnbirds, brother dave and Flysmallie 3
fishinwrench Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 It has been quite a while since I spent a day in the park but I never really saw that many people carting out limits of fish. Most are C&R guys, at least in Z1 and Z2. Have things changed? Are more people keeping all thier fish now? They must be since the number of holdovers sounds like it is very low.
NoLuck Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Wrench, it seems like there are a ton more people fishing from the bank now in Z1 and Z2. They are all pretty much spin fishing and almost all of them are keeping a limit of fish if they catch them, I've actually had to move downstream of the Holland Dam to fish because the hole by the gauge house area had too many people fishing from the bank. So yeah, there seem to be more people keepng fish in Z1 and Z2 also.
laker67 Posted August 19, 2015 Author Posted August 19, 2015 I think we should all kick in to buy a 20 dollar winter trout permit for bssp only. Then , while the hatchery was catching up with demand, they could buy some decent fish from rainbow trout and game ranch. Put them in for us to fish for during winter season. fishinwrench Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 I'd go for that IF they'll take a jackhammer to 1/2 the concrete, and plug all the exhaust pipes. Fishing in front of a pipe spewing water is only fun for about 4 minutes, and the fish are too stupid to hold anywhere else. brittsnbirds 1

I will leave the smart ones for you.

I don't buy it. Your not starting anything, your just stating the obvious because that is what occurred. I agree, there were other stories as well from locals and I suspect that they are a culmination of assumptions that are made. Just like what I have done in the past. Best part is there will be a new Captain at the Helm that will give us the answer. If it gets better then it was the manager. If it doesn't then it was....................?
